Rights: what are they are?

This seems an opportune moment to speak of rights in general and where they came from and what their purpose is.

I strongly believe that there is a real lack of understanding of this which is dangerous.

I think feminists who have a good understanding of the history of the movement are good at articulating this. I do believe this is something that needs discussing and promoting.

I'm sure this will focus a lot on women's rights, but it fits in with rights in general.

I think identifarian politics focuses on the 'who' part of rights but does not engage further, and get to grips adequately with the mechanics below which define who is most in need of rights and why. This is dangerous and undermines how rights work and the protections they are supposed to offer.

I think the subject of intersectionality has been particularly problematic as it has helped create a fallacy of a hierarchy of rights based on identity rather than vulnerability.

Would be interested in all views on rights and how different rights interact with each other.

I say all this, mindful that coming soon to British politics will be a movement with the ambition and goal of leaving the ECHR and we need to start mobilising now on this front.

It rule by mob isn't it?

I'm concerned, we are taking our eyes of the ball here too.

The majority of those who identify as liberal but are drawn to authoritarian ideals of conformity in the name of liberalism is that their identity is based on a belief in rights.

What we have to do is start to try and harness this core belief and redirect it to better understand the roots and origins of rights.

In this way it starts to undermine the mob and cult like mentalities that are driving this conformity.

Present questions about the purpose and how rights work better and you might unravel some of the support for uptopian driven drivel better.
