I’m in Australia. I’ve been lurking on this board for quite a while as have quite a few Australian feminists I know personally.

I delurked recently and have posted on a few threads. I realised today that I have been posting as if the battle facing British feminists against self id and changes to the equalities act is my battle- and it’s not.

But in another way it is. It’s the brilliant British feminists, on this board, on Twitter and in the media, that have dragged into the light changes to the rights of women and girls that in other countries have been pushed through without consultation or consideration.

I know that what happens in Britain will have a great effect on the political landscape with regard to these issues in Australia and other countries, so I want to thank you all for your intelligence, your bravery, your humour and your determination not to take bullshit lying down.

Well said - an Australian radfem contingent is sorely needed. And yes FWR UK feminists and Man Friday and WPUK are in the vanguard of this movement and need all the support they can get. History will bear out what an important fight this is - for women and children all over the world - well done FWR feminists :)

Fist bump across the hemispheres...

How is all this getting played out down there? I somehow can’t imagine it gaining traction in a country famous for no nonsense blunt speech...

In particular, is women's sport proving a big issue? What do people think about H Mouncey? And New Zealand fielding L Hubbard in the women's weight lifting both at the world championships and at the commonwealth games? (Apologies if I'm stereotyping but I get the impression that sport is a much bigger thing in Australia than the UK.)

Anyway, fist bump of solidarity across the hemispheres.
