Mermaids has quite a reach. Influencing consumer groups.

The ease with which schools, workplaces and other organisations are being brainwashed is quite astounding

Every one does have a gender identity like they have a sexuality. I'm a bit confused at the threads title

The question is whether it's innate. My 'gender identity' is based on my body and the way I've been socialised. I don't have an innate sense of womanliness. If I'd been born with a male body and socialised as male, I'm sure I'd identify as male.

I don't have a gender identity.
My being female is linked in my mind to my physical body.
My brain would be the same if I were male (except probably I would not have c ptsd because male violence against women is a thing.)

Wow, news to me. I thought gender was a load of made up bollocks designed to keep us in little boxes.

So what’s gender then and how do you know what yours is? I feel like mine might be a tiny purple Martian who comes out when cream cakes are on offer.

Or have I got this game of make-believe all wrong?

Nope. I have a sex, and then other people make assumptions about me based on my sex. No "gender". I have a personality, and everyone does indeed have one of those.

It doesn't take much to wake up. Only a few people manage to maintain cognitive dissonance, most will peak. Those that normally won't listen, I note is because they have made an arse of themselves over this issue and are embarrassed to admit they are wrong.

That is true its very hard. To test there are studies from the Dominica Republic who have a high rate of intersex that show there is an I ate component but there are so many other factors it's hard to do a controlled study.

I have no inner sense of gender identity either. I am who I Am, for better or worse, and that fluctuates. Isn't it called 'personality'?

What makes you believe everyone has a gender identity, Bespin? What evidence do you have for that?

I don’t have a gender identity - and that’s not because I am agender, it is because I philosophically reject the concept of gender - you could say gender-atheist or agenderist perhaps.

This does not deny the existence of transgender people, any more than my atheism when it comes to religion denies the existence of Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Jews (etc) - but I do not share the belief that other people hold about gender identity.

Stating that “everyone has a gender identity” is forcing a belief system on me, and others like me, and I don’t find that acceptable.

It's like insisting that everyone believes in god, or some similar concept. Nope, atheists actually do exist. Behold, we walk among you!

I'm not interested in joining the gender religion either. One could come up with many peripheral reasons for that but the underlying one is that I just don't believe.

I also don't consider myself to have a gender identity.
I am a human with a personality, some of which has been influenced by my experience of having a female body and bring treated by society as someone with a female body.
I'm also still waiting for someone to explain what this innate sense of 'gender identity' actually involves, without involving either biology or sexual stereotypes.

Most people dont have a gender identity. They have a body and a personality. Their sex is determined by which body they have - male or female.

No idea what a gender identity is. Feel I might fail at being a woman if I had to choose.

By all means Ereshkigal! I’m sure I got it from somewhere else.

Ooh I feel proud if that ends up sparking a trend.

It is self evident that no one is born with an identity. Identity needs language and the ability to reflect on who we are.

Another tweet from Healthwatch Stoke

Seems to confirm that gender identity is some aspect of personality and has nothing to do with sex, but adds in random stuff about intersex.

I think they're all as confused as we are.

I refuse to have a gender identity.

I have a sex - female - and a personality.

AlfredDaButtler · 16/06/2018 09:11

I’m another who doesn’t have a gender identity. I am a woman, purely on virtue of being adult and female, and I have had experiences that have been directly impacted by that, but I don’t go about “feeling” like a woman or consciously performing femininity.

Gender is a part of all our identities though. Whether we resist it or accept it we are defined by our stance. Believing we can be free of it is part of the lie. We can only be totally free of gender if are completely disconnected from others. Part of what we do here is develop our own gender resistance. We are doing this socially. The lie is that it comes from within is part of the social enforcement of gender.

And based on my sex vs lack of gender identity, Stonewall may well stick me under their brolly.

Also personality and body here. Do not have a gender. I am me in my female body. Liking what I like, being who I am.

I've yet to see an evidenced based definition of gender ID. I don't have one, as far as I know. OTOH my body never stops reminding me that I'm female.
