Evolution of transexuality

Can anyone suggest a rational explanation for the evolution of transexuality? (There are many explanations for the evolution of homosexuality which are perfectly coherent.)

Evolution isn't conscious or deliberate, a trait may survive if it has no detrimental effect to the survival of the species.

But tras claim 50% of transkids commit suicide without blockers. Therefore genetic causes would be detrimental to an individual's ability to survive and reproduce. Also evolution isn't concerned with survival of the species.

There's no good evidence that transsexuality is biological or innate, so there's nothing for it to have evolved from.

Not biological evolution, but social evolution if you will I have read that many cultures have "third genders" etc, but that it arises in cultured with strictly proscribed gender roles - so if you don't meet up to societies views of what man or women should be you must be a third gender.
