“If only the trans-lobby had an iota of self-knowledge and respect towards women who have come by their consciousness through the long hard slog of growing up female rather than by the skill of the surgeon’s knife. And if only the likes of Mumsnet and the Guardian – who are belatedly taking on the trans-lobby – had had the nerve to be feminists five years ago.”

The guardian?? Since when were they gender critical..? They’re fully mired in TRA ideology. They’re about as feminist as a brick

I pretty much agree with that paragraph - except the reference to The Guardian. I’m confused by that. Unless she means Hadley Freeman?

In defence of MN users (Julie may be referring to to HQ) I was reading old posts on this board recently and a small number of intelligent posters spotted what was heading our way with TRAs as far back as 2010, so eight years ago.

She probably does mean Hadley Freeman. People are starting to wake up to the clusterfuck that is self ID. Better late than never.

Hadley freeman is fabulous.

The graun at large is not, at the moment.

She probably means Hadley.

I love JB. Even when I disagree I love her chutzpah. She is the opposite of the polite woman, tiptoeing around someone’s feelings, she genuinely does not give a damn, which is inspiring really. And is also generally brilliant at reducing an argument to its essence. I think What Would Julie Birchill Do ? A far better mantra than the generally suggested Madonna.

Agree Hadley Freeman is fab, and utterly wasted on the ridiculous Grauniad. Sali Hughes too.

I agree she was probably talking about Hadley Freeman.

Up till this point, my only experience of the trans-lobby was hearing about the vile way they’d persecuted one of my friends, the veteran women’s rights and anti-domestic violence activist Julie Bindel, picketing events where she was speaking about such minor issues as the rape of children and the trafficking of women just because she refuses to accept that their relationship with their phantom limb is the most pressing problem that women – real and imagined – are facing

excellent

jolly good

and Hadley also jolly good, I was surprised the Trauniad published it.

Wow, The Spectator is really on the case, isn't it? But then anyone with half a brain can see through the nonsense.

Burchill is right.

Gosh. I'm in the rather uncomfortable position of actually agreeing with JB for once.

I love how few fucks she gives about whether or not her tone offends people.

She is right - I was reading stuff and thinking 'meh, I've no problem with trans people' for years.

It's only when you realise the implications of the law changes that the penny drops - and of course the 'lady penis' tends to be last straw for most sane people.

To be fair to MN, posters like Dittany were trying to raise awareness years ago - but got hounded off the boards. She may be back, of course.

That was good.

Yes I think she means Hadley - no-one else at the Guardian is talking about this.

In defence of MN though (if not MNHQ), I read JB's 2013 piece via a link on here. There were plenty of people agreeing with her.

Thank goodness for people like JB and the few others sticking their heads above the parapet.

Thank you Julie Flowers

When are the general public going to see this erosion of Women's rights, and start raising objects? Until they do, women will continue to be thrown under a bus.

Julie Bindel disgusts me. Trans people are people. And if you don't care about trans rights, she also hates bisexual people.

She says female bisexuality - not male -is largely fictional and acts as a 'vacation' from heterosexuality.

If y'all want to support a homophobe who only targets female bisexuals, and call yourself feminists, while quoting the SPECTATOR, of all papers, you do you, but you might want to have a think about how little that makes sense.

"I love how few fucks she gives about whether or not her tone offends people."

I'm not sure why you think being nasty to people who are on the bottom rung of society, and get murdered on a regular basis, is a virtue.

I love how few fucks she gives about whether or not her tone offends people.

Me too. I spend half my time agreeing with what she writes and the other half having a rage stroke at her latest obnoxious opinion. But I always get a kick out of knowing she doesn't give a single shiny shit what I think.

Women’s rights. We’re pro-women’s right.

Not anti trans people. Not anti trans rights.

Pro- women’s rights.
