Spectator article: Don't fall for it people

Comrades,

The framing of the self-id debate as 'Corbynistas vs. Mumsnet' is a deliberate tactic by the right wing propaganda machine and done to undermine Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party and paint it as hopelessly divided. We're not.

It is important to remember that only a Corbyn gov't will lift women out of poverty, build homes, invest in the economy, make tuition fees free and stop invading the Middle East. Jeremy, though he doesn't hold our position, is the only Labour MP who has not only come out and said that women are entitled to a debate and to campaign against self-id, but that we have a right to raise money to see if the Equalities Act 2010 exemptions are being misused by AWS.

Hope everyone is well. Mumsnet you are indeed mighty.

Fall for it?

Being patronising isn't great, from either direction.

Persuade him to come on here and actually have the debate, rather than just telling us we can't have it.

You don't think people are falling for it? Or you fell for it and don't like that being pointed out to you? 🤔

Yeah I'll get him to come on here cos HE LIVES IN MY CAR and DOES WHATEVER I SAY.

While you continue to have Lily Madigan as the ridiculous figurehead for "Women's" officer I cannot either trust, respect or vote for Labour again.

So many things to say to JC. If he doesn't come on here and hear us I think he is doomed for failure.

Jennifer, I understand the stress of this campaign has caused you to be medically signed off work. FlowersBrewCake

Please take care of yourself, maybe a social media break for two days? We need you strong!

Being entitled to a debate is thin pickings. Esp from someone who publicly backs self id.

There wasn't actually anything inaccurate in the article.

Corbyn has been getting a holy slagging on Mumsnet for what he said on the Andrew Marr show.

And rightfully so in my opinion.

I'm looking at the issue of whether women, talking about womanhood, are being shouted over by males preferring their own version.

Nothing JC has himself said suggests that he will be setting any limits to this any time soon.

I'm sorry to hear that. I disagree with you about this, Jennifer, but have great admiration for your fund-raiser and I hope you are OK.

Too late J J.

We already know what JC and the mighty males and trans of the Labour Party machine think of us female third rate citizens. They want my vote but not my opinion.

We are ready to fight for our rights #sexnotgender

I do not agree with having transwomen without GRCs as women's officers and will fight against it. Could do with all hands on deck, if you want to help?

In my view, articles like the one by Kirkup will help in that, by reaching a wider audience.

Pretending JC isn't scared to piss off transactivists more than he does women... isn't likely to help.

And yes we are entitled to a debate.

But not with him or any other policy makers in the Labour Party.

Your gofundme was set up on the 12th of January.

A month on and the only response from the Labour Party has been to claim publicly that the position of the party is that any man who claims to be a woman is a woman.

Oh, and to suspend some LP members for transphobia.

No discussion, no consultation.

Progress it ain't.

But you have shone a light on the whole self-ID thing and for that I am grateful. You've spread discussion on the issue into mainstream media.

I work for myself so I've signed myself off, will prob go back this week. I'm fine. It has been a lot like having a newborn... being hyper-awake and exhausted at the same time! Through the worst of it now, it's settling down a bit and the debate is starting to happen.

Thank you. :-)

I'm not voting Labour next time, not if JC is at the helm. I lost all confidence in him over Brexit - bad enough that twat David Cameron allowed the referendum, but JC could've turned the tide and he didn't. In fact he was completely pathetic. And this women's officer thing - he hasn't got a fucking clue.

I agree that being allowed a debate is 'thin pickings'. But that's where we were and only 3 weeks ago it was: 'Transwomen are women this is up for debate'. Things are shifting, but it takes time. A letter has gone out to CLPs to that effect... that those opposing self-id must be allowed the space to discuss it.

I donated to the fundraiser. I am neither a Labour Party member or voter. I voted because I believe in the value of AWS and wanted to support your campaign.
I am sorry this has caused you so much stress. I think it is a cross party issue, though. I don’t want to get into a discussion on what I think about Corbin. I just supported your campaign as I believe in this issue.
I wish you wellFlowers

Trying to shoo people out of Mumsnet threads tends not to work, though.
