Does anyone know if there's any news on this? Last I heard MNHQ had contacted JC's 'people' but not had a response.

Thought that was obvious. We are the wrong demographic

We've gone from ford-focus-driving mumsy Middle Englanders ready to be patronised about biscuit preferences to bigoted old witches whose thoughts are too dangerous and subversive to be heard

Think it's probably a promotion

Hear Hear, Tallulah!

We may ask difficult questions about Labour and transwomen. He won't be able to answer them without saying he's throwing us under a bus.

JustHooking · 12/02/2018 08:21

I got excited then and thought it was actually going to happen

Report
Patodp · 12/02/2018 08:22

He already did one.

Report
Myunicornfliessideways · 12/02/2018 08:50

Pato he was asked to do one specifically about self ID, as a single issue chat following his announcement on to that he welcomed a discussion with women about it.

If he does not stand behind this then it needs to go to National press. Women have the right to know that he sees them as unworthy of having a voice or opinion, their rights and safety are of no interest to him or Momentum and the only women he plans to interact with are those who are biologically men. Then we all know where we stand and can vote accordingly.

Report
Wheresmyfuckingcupcake · 12/02/2018 08:52

He doesn’t need to talk to MN. He probably thinks we all just vote as our husbands tell us to.

Really? I've never seen as much blind "Labour Love" as I do on MN!

And a fair proportion of that is shared with JC.

Report
Patodp · 12/02/2018 08:58

To be fair in this current climate I don't think any politician would be daft enough to do a webchat on a specific issues as divisive and heated as this.
Whatever he said either the TRAs would be all over it, accusing him of hateful transphobic bigotry or the feminists would be all over it calling him misogynistic.

Report
TerfsUp · 12/02/2018 08:59

If it were TIMNet, rather than MNet, JC would be all over it like a rash, so that he could virtue signal. But talk to real, biological women? Not a snowball's chance in Hell.

Report
Wanderingwomb · 12/02/2018 09:03

There seems to be a lot of different views here in general, which I think lends more credibility to the huge proportion of posters who are beginning to see the problems with self ID. How dare he ignore us! As somebody who voted him in and has the TSHIRT I am getting very very pissed off

Myunicornfliessideways · 12/02/2018 09:11

If he says on tv he does not want to exclude women from the debate and welcomes discussion - I don't have much sympathy about the dangers to his political career of actually doing it.

If it's an issue he believes in then he needs to have the guts to face women and tell them Labour doesn't give a damn about them. Actions have consequences, he's hung his hat on this issue. He can't just hope that most women voters won't realise. If he's afraid of a trans backlash for talking to women- and lets face it they think even allowing women a conversation is hate, they don't want this publicised or talked about - then tough again for JC. Either he agrees women have a right to a voice in massive political decisions solely affecting them, or he doesn't.

Not interested in his woes, they come with the job.

Report
Wheresmyfuckingcupcake · 12/02/2018 09:17

Reported in the times yesterday / recent polling showing labour vote 6% down among women - the self id issue cited as a cause.
I really think the stupid bell end may have screwed himself over this one.

Report
DodoPatrol · 12/02/2018 09:18

Would any of the gender-critical trans people on here be up for talking to Corbyn?

Off the top of my head: PidgeonPodge, TransHobbit, Curry?

Report
AdaColeman · 12/02/2018 09:18

He can't come for a web chat, he's having too much fun on the bandwagon.

Report
DodoPatrol · 12/02/2018 09:19

I'd like to ask him for clarity on who he considers trans, and whether the definition has any boundaries at all.

Mumsnet is absolutely a demographic that Jeremy Corbyn and indeed anyone who wants to win a general election needs to be concerned about. Mumsnet includes:
Women
Parents
Older women - arguably as or more important than the younger vote if you look at the figures.

All of those groups quite naturally have some questions about how saying someone with a penis saying they are female is going to work in practice.

Hopefully, JC and others in the party have thought through the answers to these and can reassure us.

Or if not presumably he will want to look at how to make sure the Labour Party set a policy on this that makes sure there are no issues for women.

Why wouldn't he talk to mumsnet about this?

Report
DodoPatrol · 12/02/2018 09:30

Because having questions is bigoted and requires re-education, apparently.

Report
SeaWitchly · 12/02/2018 09:31

I am a staunch Labour member who actively campaigned in the last GE.

I am also a Jeremy Corbyn supporter who helped vote him in as leader [twice] because I strongly believe in the political and ideological platform on which he stands.

This is no 'blind Labour love' however. I happen to believe that it is important, vital even, that the country's resources are directed towards supporting those most in need, for example care in the community, ensuring that residents in tower blocks such as Grenfall have safe housing that is fit for purpose, state education, supporting medical staff to provide the best standard of care in the NHS and paying them a decent wage for doing so...

But I am appalled at the direction Labour seems to be taking over Self ID, AWS, appointing a teenage transwoman without a GRC as womens officer... and standing by as they fight with women on social media and compile secret dossiers with the intention of getting them kicked out of the Labour Party. I am horrified that Jennifer Jones has been suspended from the Labour Party. I was greatly disturbed to see JC , a man who I have seen to have a thoughtful and principled viewpoint on most political issues [whether you may agree with these or not], offer the most mealy mouthed response to Andrew Marr around self id in the party. To me, he didn't sound convinced but equally he was keen to move on... that he had bigger fish to fry.
I don't think that he has thought this through tbh or self id's implications for women... and he needs to, pronto, or he is going to lose a heck of a lot more women from the Labour Party and that is a great shame for those of us who fear for those most at risk from yet another term of Tory government

And I would also like to know has Jeremy yet made the opportunity to speak with Linda Bellos or other GC feminist groups.
Otherwise him saying he responds to the person in front of him [in response to .Andrew Marr's questioning] is a white wash as if he doesn't make the effort to speak to GC feminists and TERFS then he is never going to have the opportunity to really hear and understand what is they are trying to say about this.

Report
Horridemma · 12/02/2018 10:01

Who are keeping these dossier complying groups in check?

Surely these sorts of sinister Stasi like activities are not supported by the leading committee?

Do they have to comply with freedom on information requests?

Report
Wheresmyfuckingcupcake · 12/02/2018 10:05

Corbyn will not condemn these activities because, in common with other terminally juvenile members of the hard left, he believes the end justifies the means. If the cause is just it matters not how you further it. When the security services snoop on people that is state repression. When momentum activists do it it is promoting s just cause.
That’s how he thinks, and how he has always thought. That was always clear. Which is why those who express disappointment in him strike me as very naive.

I couldn't agree more. For men who think like this, we are indeed acceptable collateral damage.

At the very best we'll get his mealy-mouthed "I condemn all bullying".

Read James Kirkup's article in The Spectator explaining to Corbyn just why he should be listening to Mumsnet.

JC is very welcome to have a live unmoderated chat on MN. He can count on a welcoming attitude and a thought-provoking and inspiring debate regarding his policies on a wide array of issues such as Brexit (to name a random example).
