It's a good idea to make feminist connections so that the feminist network is larger, stronger, better connected and isn't at a permanent disadvantage on monster sized sites like twitter.
Divide and conquer is effective and can make you feel at a psychological disadvantage.

So. CONNECT: Today's easypeasy, takes-one-minute task to connecting us all up is this one:

Twitter: Go into your followers, and follow them all back
(update here if you like)

simples.

  • post your own easypeasy network building ideas like this.

And just like that, I've added 89 gender critical people to my twitter network.

Took a minute.

I am a professional person in an industry where it is very hard to be a woman. My income depends very much on keeping my head down.

Done. I generally follow people back straight away, so surprised a few seem to have slipped through the net!

Mine - pick a hashtag (eg #radfem #labourlosingwomen #gendercritical ) and get following anyone who seems to have similar views. This one is especially important I think, if you are a member of a political party that is promoting self ID, so you know you are not alone.

My advice to someone like wine would be to set up a second account where you can share the views you are unable to share on your personal one.

I don't trust Twitter. I do trust Mumsnet. I have some knowledge.

Winefred
No worries - this is just a tip for those already on twitter.
I don't post on twitter under my real name. Mind you, I don't on MN either!

I am not on social media; I definitely don't think I have the mental fortitude to join twitter.

But I'm grateful other people are willing to speak out.

This could be a scene in the Handmaid's Tale

I've set up a new throwaway email account, and used that for a Twitter account, none of them have my real name or details, and I don't use either of them on my phone. Mainly because my real surname is pretty distinctive, and I don't want anything connecting to the rest of the family, not that I'm concerned about anything affecting me personally. I've chosen to be GC on Twitter, they haven't.

Yes. We got to this place so very quickly that it's taken us all by surprise.

On my twitter account I got a message after a couple of weeks asking me to verify again by email. I guess that is to filter out the throwaway email account subscribers.

I still check my throwaway email, just not as often as my regular one

I was thinking of the ones that expire after 10 minutes.

But def take all steps to be anonymous - there may be a dark future where it matters.
