Here's my post replying to Moth
Thats an interesting article moth. Best not on the board or MRAs would be all over it!
I was wondering today, hopefully, if the news about darts getting rid of the girls means the overton window is shifting and maybe p0rn will become less acceptable?
If not all this hooha about F1 girls and the presidents club is just tinkering on the edges.

The US is voting on an abortion ban after 20 weeks. The Right is moving towards a very conservative form of fascism.
To me, it just feels like 2 opposing types of mens club are fighting over who gets to be top dog.

Hey Quentin. The darts was another thing I wanted to post about and didn’t! The BBC sport facebook post about it was deluged with “PC gone mad!” comments, many of them from women. I found it so disheartening. I really like darts - I watched the Masters at the weekend. The fans didn’t seem any less pissed enthusiastic for the lack of glittery totty.

I guess we are moving in the right direction in a lot of ways.

And here is my post to Hairy that disappeared at the end of the last thread because I was too slow:

I do like a whodunnit and hadn’t heard of Fiona Veitch Smith. I’ve had a look and may give her a go. Jazz Files puts me in mind of Ngaio Marsh’s Swing, Brother, Swing. I can’t now remember the plot but I remember enjoying it!

I think my cosy murder post was the last, I was hoping we could talk about those!

My colleague also told me something about a small village having poison pen letters. Maybe he's setting up to write a cosy murder novel of his own.

Hello, I'm popping in for a quick tipple before bed.

I've just read the linked article on porn Quentin. God it's depressing and I think I must now make my drink a double. I don't know where to start anymore with porn, it's so ubiquitous. The article has made it clearer to me though that what is on view is abuse though rather than 'sex' which I will say next time this crops up in conversation in my RL.

I suppose the only smidgen of comfort is that the article is written by a man and there was a man in the comments below talking about a network of men trying to help on this issue. Another comment was spot on, pointing out that men have to put their money where their mouth is on equality and stop watching this shit. But I cannot imagine this shit ever going away to any great degree now. Ever. Sad How are feminists getting any purchase on this issue at the moment politically? I'm totally out of the loop.

BlindYeo, I agree about the abuse angle. It’s sickening. I think he did a good job of dismissing the consenting actor’s personal empowerment argument, which is trotted out so predictably. It’s irrelevant whether the individual porn actor is a consenting adult and/or feels personal empowerment. Porn doesn’t exist in a fantasy wankbubble: it influences real men’s views of real women in the real world.

I just read the comments on a Lib Dem Facebook post about making misogynistic harassment a hate crime.
Loads of people saying that's not equality and we must have a crime of misandry too Sad

Morning . Just catching up listening to Linda Bellos on world at one yesterday. Uplifting and depressing at the same time.

Afternoon. I'm here to have big full fat frothy cappuccino if the pub does them. This outdoes an insipid herbal tea any day of the week. Hi Moth yes I agree completely about porn's influence in RL and the supposed empowerment argument.

Moth that article was such a depressing read, but very good. And I agree: if we want to fight this shit, we have to have men on our side too.

I'm looking for a thread that mentioned a debate in the pages of Bella Caledonia. I contributed and wanted to mention it but I can't find the thread!

I am fed up of hearing about how feminists have lost women their jobs. Although Sheila Fogarty did a great job on R5 saying she didn't understand the argument as most of the grid girls appear to be bright articulate women doing it part time.

Everyone talking about the specifics of "well little mix wear less" and missing the point that the women are there to be eye candy and the men are there to drive fast.

F1 could have made grid roles open to men, or had children mascots like footy. The fact they are getting rid of the role rather than doing that just shows how ridiculous it is.

Yes. And - Liberty Media made this decision, AFAIK there was no specific high profile campaign (unlike No More Page 3) - just a realisation that this is losing more £/viewers than it gains because many people find it ugh whilst fewer people really like it (plenty are no doubt neutral).

Hello all. I'd like something strong and dark rum based please, it's been a long day

Pleased to see some rather gender critical comments on this Grauniad piece about CBB and the national LBGT conversation though. Where are all the trans supporters?

need caffeine......uuuuugh.....

I sometimes just can't face reading comments, I hate the essays, I wish they would limit characters on comments. Quite often I hear the voice of a man like my dad who thinks - why use 2 words when 20 will make you feel more important?

I think I'm coming down with some kind of lurgy, I've got myself all wound up on another thread and I need a big big glass of Wine...or possibly a hot toddy (for medicinal purposes you understand)

Sometimes it just feels so bloody hopeless.

I keep thinking more and more about what terrifies me the most in The Handmaid's Tale.

It's not the horror of Gilead itself although it is utterly horrific, but it's just how easily the women's rights get taken away without really that much fight back...perhaps I am becoming paranoid!

Enough of that, bring on the Wine Wine Wine

Report
Riverside2 · 01/02/2018 21:44

Terry, I'm 42 and I didn't watch the Handmaid's tale because when I read it as a teen, it seemed like a random dystopia and now it feels like a four minute warning.

I hope you fight off your lurgy.

Here’s a cheering story - transactivists ‘reported’ an author to her publisher for her gender critical opinions on Twitter - and the publisher supported her publicly
