I saw this today in a post on Facebook. It’s not a typo as it was used a few times. Is there a reason it’s being spelled like this? I’m relatively new to being a vocal feminist so still learning about terminologies... but this didn’t sit right with me. Happy to learn if it’s ‘the new way’ and there’s a good point to it.

I've never seen it spelt like this before but my guess would be as us biological women have XX chromosomes not XY like men or men who identify as women.

IrkThePurist · 20/01/2018 00:10

I've seen it used by trans activists, not by women though.

WorraLiberty · 20/01/2018 00:11

What did they say when you asked them?

CAAKE · 20/01/2018 00:15

From urban dictionary -

I meant to add a 🙄 to that 👆 post.

NotTerfNorCis · 20/01/2018 00:17

Surely 'women' includes 'women of colour'??

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2018 00:20

Don't worry I think we all mentally added it, CAAKE.

womanhuman · 20/01/2018 00:21

What shit do these people spout in languages where the words are totally different (homme/femme etc) where there’s nothing to get chippy about with the similarity between man/woman? The English language isn’t straight from the mouth of god, ffs.

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2018 00:22

And surely, per "trans women are women!" tw feel included in "women" too?

PerspicaciaTick · 20/01/2018 00:26

I'm rather enjoying the use of becunted on MN at the moment. Just need a noun to go with the verb.

Teabagtits · 20/01/2018 00:27

Worraliberty still waiting for a response, which was why I asked here.

How is womxn "more intersectional than womyn"? Because a X is two lines intersecting or something? Confused

ConjugalHoliday · 20/01/2018 00:30

That was the stupidest thing I've read today. That's quite an achievement considering I also read that people were eating dishwasher tabs.

Teabagtits · 20/01/2018 00:31

I’m not sure I totally understand what you mean grammatically but where i’m from ‘to be cunted’ Is more about a state of intoxication.

EamonnWright · 20/01/2018 00:32

It hurts your head reading that and knowing that those halfwits are basically writing their own law of access to protected spaces.

Teabagtits · 20/01/2018 00:35

Caake thanks for the pic explanation... I think. I’m not sure how xn is more trans inclusive than yn or even en. I also don’t understand how en or yn is exclusive of women of colour. I’m getting more confused. I think I need some kind of dictionary of labels and spellings

I thought the x thing was for Latin gendered languages? So "latinx"

AngryAttackKittens · 20/01/2018 00:39

What fuckery is this? And how are you meant to pronounce it?

pisacake · 20/01/2018 00:44

Womyn was a 70s thing, basically to say 'no men here, thanks'.

But now apparently you gotta be male-inclusionary.

So there is a womyn's centre which is doing a closed consultation with men on how to change their name to womxn so that bedicked ones aren't upset.

PositivelyPERF · 20/01/2018 00:56

So what it boils down to pisacake, is yet again, women are losing another space to men. How fucking depressing.

IrkThePurist · 20/01/2018 01:01

It cant be more inclusive as its made up and not immediately obvious what it means.
They could just as easily picked 'Quertyx' and spouted the same bollox.

Badweekjustgotworse · 20/01/2018 01:08

I came across that last year on some US based face book pages (for baby wearing of all things) where every one is 'woke as fuck'. [eyeroll]

So latina women have changed the last letter of latina because its sex based, so latina is 'woman with cultural ties to latin america', latino is the male version, but latinx is non specific so desexes the actual language and is therefore more inclusive.

I think the x has been imported to women and of course folx which is all over the place now too. I can see the point in latino because in a mixed group the male version of latino always dominates, so in a mixed group of 100 where 99 are female and there is one man then everyone will be lumped in with latinos, but importing it to woman is just stupid imho

Womyn is used quite a bit by second wave types / radfems so it out obviously ie it's "terfy"

The idea that this excludes non white women is just a furtherance of the idea that anyone who is gender critical is "non intersectional" ie racist and evil Confused

Plus X is a really cool letter...

This changing words and making up new ones and moving the language every 5 secs is I suppose to keep people on their toes - worried about using out of date language - and because people make arguments around the language / meaning of stuff so rather than engaging they just keep moving the goalposts...

YY. That's why it's best just not to engage with any of it.

pisacake · 20/01/2018 01:20

i think the idea is 'we are trans-inclusive and non-racist, and you are trans-exclusive, so you are also racist'
