Good news, presumably?
I want to know where that leaves a certain womens officer, surely that ruling counts for every Labour post?

Its the absolute least they could do, because its the current law. Angry

I still think trans people should have their own lists. I know not everyone will agree with that, but we could end up with an AWS that consists of 100% biological males, and many people are ok with that.

Battleax · 18/01/2018 14:35

It's something.

QOFE · 18/01/2018 14:35

Wow. That's more than I expected from them tbh.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 14:37

I agree with you Irk but the Labour position above is perfectly legal so there's s was the best that could have been hoped for I expect.

I alscan't now expect a new phase of vigour in trying to bring self ID into GRA

LangCleg · 18/01/2018 14:41

Haha. If it hadn't been for Jennifer James, they'd have tried to sneak in self-ID despite its being unlawful, and hoped nobody said anything.

So, are they going to ask TIMs applying for AWS to provide evidence they have a GRC? Or take it on trust? Has Heather Peto got a GRC?

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 14:46

Well thats the problem isn't it. Someone has to decide if you look female enough or do they ask for a GRC.
Its unworkable IMO.

Lancelottie · 18/01/2018 14:46

I have a feeling I've read somewhere that it is illegal to ask whether a candidate has a GRC.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 14:48

They would need to ask for birth certificates presumably.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 18/01/2018 14:49

I read that when you get a GRC you get an amended birth certificate, so that would, work.

Might be wrong about the amended BC though.

BelaLugosisShed · 18/01/2018 14:49

There’s the rub, people who have a GRC, followed by new passport/birth certificate are allowed to destroy their GRC as if it never existed. It’s such a damn mess because employers etc. Aren’t allowed to ask about a GRC.
At least if someone has a Birth certificate saying Female 🤬, they must have had a GRC.
I imagine Labour had no option but to state the Legal position, they knew damn well it wouldn’t stand up in court otherwise.
Now all we have to do is stop self id ! 🤭

OP posts:
Datun · 18/01/2018 14:50

I've never understood that. How is it only legal if you have a GRC, when one of the conditions of having one means no one can ask to see it ?

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 18/01/2018 14:51

So what does this mean for Lily Madigan who has been elected into a Women's Officer position? I know that's not the same as AWS but surely the same rules apply re: a GRC?

BelaLugosisShed · 18/01/2018 14:53

I have not been able to find any statistics re the number of MtF with GRCs who went on to get a new Birth certificate. Who would have guessed this thing would be so sloppily put together and contradictory ? 🙄

OP posts:
Datun · 18/01/2018 14:53

Lilly madigan is therefore not eligible. She can't be. She doesn't have a GRC.

IrkThePurist · 18/01/2018 14:54

I thought Party Rules stated the Women's Officer had to be a woman.

How can someone ask to see my birth certificate to check my sex, but not have to ask to see a GRC?
Thats discriminating against women.

Battleax · 18/01/2018 14:55

Surely they can finesse that to "proof of sex".

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 14:57

Unless they sack Lily - who afaik doesn't have a grc - it's just lip service

nauticant · 18/01/2018 14:58

Let's hope there isn't a move to use the £16,000 to remove Lily Madigan from their position.

Labour Party job description
Job Title: CLP Women’s Officer
A part of the team
Every year the local constituency Labour Party elects ‘officers’ to carry out the organisational and campaigning priorities of the party. There are eight key posts that must be filled - chair, deputy chair, secretary, treasurer, vice-chair (membership) and vice-chair (policy), women’s officer and youth officer - and at least four of these must be women. The women’s officer must be a woman.

gunsandbanjos · 18/01/2018 15:01

It’s a teeny tiny step in the right direction.

Well done labour for complying with the actual law you bunch of mealy mouthed halfwits.

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 15:01

Ta-ra lily...

gunsandbanjos · 18/01/2018 15:03

Does LM have a GRC does anyone know for sure?

I’m sure she spouted some shit about her passport saying female?

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 15:05

It's only an assumption from me, but as lily was 19 when the role commenced, lily can't have been living the two years as a woman required for GRC. Lily has since turned 20 this week though, so it is now at least physically possible.

I'm not positive on the interpretation of the guidelines though - it says the person must be over 18 and live two years in the intended sex afaik. But I don't know if those two years have to be post 18.

BeyondWW · 18/01/2018 15:07

You don't need a grc to change your passport, a letter from your gp is enough
