So far Evan Davies is making a decent attempt at introducing the topic.

I've had to pause it. I think I'll watch it in chunks.

Evan Davies was very careful though to start with a Not All Men! He did also say that his very brief intro didn't do justice to the subject and concluded with saying that a friend had been in touch to tell him that she had been subjected to harassment this morning. He seemed surprised by that, that this was continuing despite all the recent media attention!

I thought the very start of the programme, with several women giving their accounts of the abuse they've experienced, and the range of abuse suffered, was very moving, and didn't miss and hit the wall, or make any excuses for the reality faced by women every day in all situations. Evan Davies's piece after that seemed defensive and ill-thought out - and more about balancing women and men in terms of viewpoint and air time.

I thought the nature programme stuff was just bizarre tbh. And an unnecessary distraction and time waster.

Well done the guy with the beard saying that its not the girls we need to train to dress more modestly, its our boys that we need to train to not to rape.

Basically, he called out the older guy’s victim blaming.

Oh FFS! This is painful. Evening up the balance of men & women in the studio would have been a start.

Why the fuck are there males on this panel? Why the fuck is a male chairing the debate?

We need to hear FEMALE voices, and female voices ONLY.

Oh for fuck's sake! I'm running behind here because I paused, and I've just heard the fuckwit man saying that there's no patriarchy!

Fucking hell! Men saying, oh, there's no problem here! are the fucking problem. If they can't see the problem, they are the problem!

Yes, this programme should have been only women's voices, women's perspectives, and if any men were there at all they should have been required to listen only!

“These vindictive females...” The ever-present false accusing woman. Hmm

CaretakerToNuns · 01/11/2017 23:10

And this goes for the males on there that are pretending to be on our side too. They're only doing it to look good on TV.

I sighed when I saw it was on, considered recording it and decided it'd wind me up.
Got that right then!

Why the fuck is he talking about male suicide? This is meant to be about WOMEN. Fucking prick.

I bet those "progressive" men on there all watch porn, all talk over women, all support the sex industry etc. They're all the same.

I've paused it again.

On one hand I am so glad that so many women are now, all at once, speaking about their experiences, especially at the hands (quite literally) of men in power. On the other hand, I am outraged and shouting out loud angry at the way they are minimising. Like the MP saying what he did was acceptable 10 years ago. Ten years ago! No it fucking wasn't acceptable 10 years ago!

I came looking for a thread after hearing that man (I think he is a journalist) saying that there is no patriarchy.
The problem with this program was that there were only 3 women (not including the presenter).
The group of 'normal' men were useless they just belittled the problem by putting so much emphasis bring worried about touching someone on the arm or hugging a friend.
I am feeling really cross about it and unable to put all my thoughts into words at the moment.

Totally depressing. It should have been a women only programme. Channel 4 news last night had a female presenter and 2 women MPs (one lab one con) discussing this last night and there was none of that male suicide/vindictive women shit in the discussion.

So many men are afraid of and equally affronted by women. The misogyny is palpable.

I felt there was a lot of 'I am a man therefore you should all listen to me and be amazed by this profound and amazing point I am making'

Who is that older man on the panel?

I'm watching this delayed still because I had to keep pausing it for the sake of my blood pressure. I might have to pause it again soon.

The woman in front of the older man on the panel isn't much use either. She's placing far too much responsibility on individual women and girls to be able to act and speak in the moment with no understanding of how impossible that can be, for many reasons.

DH is out tonight so missed it. I just sent him a barrage of ranty texts about it. Whoever put together that studio audience needs firing. The only good thing was that it showed up the majority of them (or was that just the shouty ones) as a bunch of twits. The young man with the flowers in his hair seemed decent though.
