Person who raped a 15-year old girl found dead in prison

My sympathy is limited. The judge said that Martin Eatough was likely to be a risk to women for the rest of his life. I would assume that doesn't change if Martin takes hormones and identifies as Jade. And yet at some point this person could have expected to be transferred to a women's prison?

It's very hard to feel any sympathy for a person who's raped someone. I would have thought if you were transgender you'd do whatever it took to stay out of prison, knowing what might happen there. Raping women and then saying you identify as a woman is dreadful.

It's interesting that in the article Eatough is referred to as "she" when they're talking about the suicide and "he" when they give details of the sexual assault. I'm surprised they didn't choose to refer to them consistently throughout.

Only became trans once in prison, is my reading of the story, Brilliant.

I've written and deleted so many responses. If I say what I really want I think I'll break the internet.

But, the two things trans people say is: MTT do not commit violent crime including rape, and no man would ever pretend to be MTT to gain access to women. So what's happening here then?

For goodness sake (reaction to the article not the posting of it). Using "she" and "her" when speaking of this rapist is ridiculous in my opinion. This was a violent misogynist who had complete contempt for women and girls yet they're being written of in that article as if they're a woman, trying to illicit sympathy for them being held in a male prison. How on Earth could he have been "living as a woman"? What nonsense. At least this is one fewer dangerous offender who could ever be moved to a women's prison or released.

I wonder why people end up this way.

Why people become violent, sadistic rapists, or why they end up on hormones asking people to call them Jade?

"Violent Beast jailed for life" said the local paper, reporting the trial.

Like Bob, I'm really questioning the process here and whether this "violent beast" could have been put into the women's estate.

As far as I'm concerned he was a dangerous, violent and abhorrent misogynist man.

What this proves is that there needs to be more prison officers to minimise the suicide risk in prisons. Not that a rapist should be transferred to a women's prison.

One less violent man in the world.

Wonderful.

I think it's very sad when anyone takes their life in prison, and I hope this death is thoroughly investigated to try and prevent this sort of thing happening again.

I find it very distasteful that certain quarters are leaping on this suicide as proof of their cause.

In 2016 over a hundred people killed themselves in prison ( www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38756409 ) . The prison estate is in a terrible condition, and these deaths are a proof of that. Correlation does not equal causation and it is lazy to say this person killed themselves because they were trans - after all, were all these suicides trans-people.

I sometimes wonder if this type of incident is suicide or autoeroticasphyxiation gone wrong.

Either way, a rapist is dead, I won't be shedding any tears.

I am not saying this person killed themselves because they were trans.

My concern in highlighting the story is that it is another example of an extremely violent man transitioning while serving a life sentence for crimes against women, and had they not killed themselves, they could have applied to be transferred to a female prison. Especially if the changes to the law removing the need for a GRC go through.

Two young women can now lead the rest of their lives safe in the knowledge that they will never have to fear catching sight of their attacker. In my mind that can only be seen as a good thing.

Yes, I do.

Report
NoLoveofMine · 01/10/2017 21:38

Quite, viques. It must be horrendous when women and girls who've suffered these awful attacks hear the attacker is going to be released (and awful always knowing they'll be released at some point).

Fair enough.

I'd be over the moon if the man who raped me kills himself. It means he wouldn't be able to do it to someone else, I know I wasn't the first. I was 15 too.

Report
NoLoveofMine · 01/10/2017 21:40

My preference would be they're imprisoned with whole life orders but given that'd never happen I'd certainly prefer them not be around than knowing they'd be released one day (as pretty much all rapists are).

DearMrDilkington Flowers sorry, my post was insensitive after you posted that about your personal situation.

Don't be sorryFlowers! I'm much more offended that someone would feel sympathy for him, but each to their own...
