The Guardian? THE GUARDIAN?!
Wow, is the world slowly waking up?

Ekphrasis · 24/09/2017 18:37

But it's a letter - they've published it but it's not one of their journalists writing it. Though it's extremely important and a very good piece.

AdalindSchade · 24/09/2017 18:38

18 months ago they would NEVER have printed that.

AwkwardSquad · 24/09/2017 18:40

Hadley Freeman last weekend

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 24/09/2017 18:41

Competition is a great think, dontcyaknow? The Times was on the case before them and it make them look unreasonable

They haven't included the fact that action for trans health, who advised the government on the self identification policy proposal, incited the attack on Maria and tweeted in support of violence against women (terfs). That element is pretty important.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 24/09/2017 18:42

It's a funny old thing, because women are half the population of the world and trans are less than 1%. Now who would you really want to piss off?

I await the backlash to this letter.

Great to see such wonderful women signing it.

It's a start.

HemlockIsSpartacus · 24/09/2017 19:10

I'm impressed they've printed it

Ekphrasis · 24/09/2017 19:17

Yes I saw Hadly's piece- had forgotten that.

Would like to see more from others.

I can't help thinking whether her piece was more 'allowable' since the BBC Gender programme in the summer.

Backingvocals · 24/09/2017 19:30

About bloody time - although it's not their editorial. The way they reported on the attempted murder by a transwoman of an athletics official a while back was the day I stopped reading the Guardian. Will see if I can find it.

Ktown · 24/09/2017 19:33

Hadley plus one bloke at the guardian have both skirted around the issue.
Very subtle though - neither have said too much.
I think the argument should be focused on the kids first.
Mermaids is surely going to go the same way as kids company. The sort of dodgy stuff they are pushing isn't going to be acceptable for much longer.

Backingvocals · 24/09/2017 19:34

Attempted murder. When have you read a similarly sympathetic piece about a would be murderer who all but destroyed the life of their victim ?

fruitlovingmonkey · 24/09/2017 19:59

That's an awful article backingvocals.
I must say I am enjoying my subscription to The Times. This is far too little, too late from the Guardian.

NotAgainYoda · 24/09/2017 20:06

I also liked Hadley Freeman's piece

I

theendisnotnigh · 24/09/2017 20:18

Backing,
I wrote and complained to the Guardian. They told me that the reporter was unaware of Lauren Jeska's transgender status -it hadn't come up in court - obviously a reporter with limited skills.
That was also the moment when I parted company with the Guardian - when a paper I respected starts deliberately telling lies and manipulating news to promote a particular ideology, that's the day that I stop reading them.

Blanchefleur · 24/09/2017 20:43

About time! I wonder whether this letter was sent to other newspapers or organisations too?

So, the Guardian is inviting us to 'Join the debate – email [email protected]' . Let's get writing!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/09/2017 21:33

I wouldn't give the Guardian too much credit - it's not like they actually wrote it. And in a sane world it would be pretty uncontroversial, speaking out against violence against women.

Fwiw, the historian Tom Holland was magnificent on Twitter earlier.

Terfing · 24/09/2017 21:39

I agree: it is too little, too late. The Guardian threw women under the bus over this, and other issues. For this, I will never give them my money or respect.

Datun · 24/09/2017 23:27

Exactly what I was thinking. Self-interested sexist cowards. And judging by the women on this thread, too little too late.

QueenLaBeefah · 24/09/2017 23:31

Nah. Won't be reading or buying the Guardian ever again. It has repeatedly thrown women under the bus and they can go fuck themselves.

Yes well I still have my newspaper delivery so need to walk to the newsagents to cancel. Which will prop take about 6 weeks based on my time to pay the bill Blush.

Will just change it for the Times. There's a sentence I didn't think I would write

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 24/09/2017 23:37

Too little too late. Their coverage of the transgender stabbing was utterly appalling.

Mumsnut · 25/09/2017 08:39

I know the Daily Mail is off-limits to most of you, but their thinking on the Hyde Park attack has slightly evolved. There's still the assumption that TERFS is what gender critical femininsts call themselves rather than a label pinned to them by TA, but the article is very clear on where the violence is coming from

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4914582/Radical-transgender-group-says-FINE-punch-women.html

And an article on the Bath Spa university decision to block research on de-transitioning.

It's almost as if they're taking inspiration from this board ...

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4916026/University-bars-non-PC-study-transgender-operations.html

I can probably live with that.
