Feminism: Sex & gender discussions

This has pissed me off

A Facebook group for local parents I'm on. There's a single Dad on the group with 3 daughters and he has just posted a pic of himself in M&S where he is shopping for a bra with one of them and asking for advice. Cue a million posts telling him what an amazing Daddy he is etc etc

I know for a fact there are many, many single mothers on this group and not one of them has ever felt the need to do a post like that one. Nor been called amazing for doing so.

Thoughts?

He's a twat but you know this already.

Asking for advice - fair enough.

'Amazing dad' - boak.

He's not the problem. Society's gendered expectations are the problem.

A post about buying a bra for your child would be twattish from a mum or a dad, it's such a personal thing and that child will be mortified if she sees the post or it gets shared in years to come.

And he should be asking the shop assistants for advice not the internet!

Sooo amazing of him to splash his daughters personal business all over the public domain for likes and attention

Hang on a sec - he posted a pic? What, a selfie or a pic of his child? Either is twattish, but the second is even twattier than the first.

That was a boast, not a true request for help.

So he thought Facebook would be a more effective place to ask for advice about bras than the specialist staff at the shop? Dick.

And the amazing dad responses are insulting to both men and women. Women because they would get thoroughly rounded on for doing the same thing, men because it expects such low standards

A selfie of himself holding a bra with a Confused expression

I've done the same with my daughter. I just asked the assistant. I had to buy her sanitary products. I haven't got a clue what she needs so I asked the woman in pharmacy.

By putting something like that on Facebook he knows what reaction he will get and is playing to the crowd for his ego.

Maybe he secretly wants to wear it ... :)

It's misguided sure but I can see the reasoning, I'm sure many of the parents are women with more knowledge and basic tips than a shop assistant potentially saying wrong things for a more expensive sale

His first rookie mistake was going to m&s for his daughters first bra...

I would have commented something along the lines of "nothing to see here folks, just a parent doing normal, parent-y things, move along".

Surely if you just wanted advice you'd post before you went with no selfie needed. Not stand in a shop waiting for random people on the internet.

Yeah it's a bit weird. Like he's saying "look at me, I'm a father and I'm taking my daughter bra shopping. Aren't I fabulous har har har".

Oh ffs! Everyday parenting but he wants a medal. He's a dick

I'm a single father and my daughter would hit me a kick to the bollocks if I even tried to talk about bras with her let alone post a pic on FB shopping for bras for/with her.

She would stab me in my sleep if I done that.

Not all single fathers are wannabe martyrs, any I know hate the patronising pat on the head shite that can come from some women.

He's a dick and the "likers" are sexist.

My dad took me bra shopping and my parents were still together at the time

I wish we had a name for this sort of arse-ish behaviour. I already have a name for the "oh isn't he wonderful!" women....
