What Type Of Feminist Are You?

I'll post my results below. Do you think that's correct?

SarcasmMode Fri 28-Apr-17 19:01:39

I got Liberal Feminist.

I take grievance with all the womanly stereotype comments though.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog Fri 28-Apr-17 19:11:32

Mine were "we don't know what the fuck you are" - 40 on each of liberal and socialist, 37 on radical and woman of colour, 10 on conservative.

I think this is because the survey is not particularly well drafted. So, for e.g. "do you think capitalism needs the oppression of women to function" rather than "do you think capitalism in particular needs the oppression of women to function"? Also, I think my score of 10 for conservatism must come from me being anti porn, anti prostitution - yet another of those occasions when someone coming at survey design from a lib fem perspective unthinkingly assumes there can be no reasons other than sexual conservatism for objecting to porn.

The balance of liberal and radical probably sums up my pragmatic streak - I think radical feminism has more to offer in terms of critique and analysis of why society is so fucked but liberal feminism (in the old fashioned sense of being aligned to traditional liberal political systems in the JS Mill/John Rawls sense, not the modern neo capitalist, libertarian identity politics sense) has more of a chance of solving them.

However, I think modern neo capitalist, libertarian identity politics liberal fun feminism has precisely zero ability to analyze anything and zero chance of achieving any positive social change. (God, I wish we could reclaim the liberal feminism of 20, 30 years ago).

newtlover Fri 28-Apr-17 19:22:45

hmm, I'm equally liberal/radical and socialist

newtlover Fri 28-Apr-17 19:24:15

I agree it isn't especially well drafted and seems geared to USA.

newtlover Fri 28-Apr-17 19:24:44

and wtf is a cultural feminist?

phoolani Fri 28-Apr-17 22:58:25

Rad fem.

Xenophile Fri 28-Apr-17 23:02:40

I am a grumpy and sarcastic one.

On that test, I usually come up as radical to the shock and surprise of no one grin

MsJuniper Fri 28-Apr-17 23:10:31

I got:

Women of colour 47
Radical/Socialist 46
Liberal 44
Cultural 36
Conservative 10

I thought it said they were using "conservative" to mean a generic non-feminist viewpoint.

Beauty is feeling one's womanhood through peace, caring, and nonviolence.

IamalsoSpartacus Sat 29-Apr-17 01:00:34

radical/socialist. Which is reasonable because I think I'm actually a marxist feminist.

ExplodedCloud Sat 29-Apr-17 01:35:24

Liberal. But it's very USA orientated.

Cantseethewoods Sat 29-Apr-17 01:53:56

I struggled with some of the racial questions as I didn't feel I really had the knowledge to answer- probably very ignorant of me but I wasn't quite sure what they meant, for example, about the specific needs of women of colour in rape counselling.

Anyway, I came out Lib/Rad as my top two. Then Women of Colour. Socialist/Cons bottom two.

Probably makes sense as I'd describe myself as socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

highinthesky Sat 29-Apr-17 02:16:29

I love the way this piece of "academic" research links it's definitions to....Wikipedia grin

That's not to denigrate wiki, merely to suggest there are better academic citations!

ChocChocPorridge Sat 29-Apr-17 07:49:14

Pornography exploits female sexuality and degrades all women.

I don't think pornography has anything to do with female sexuality at all, but I definitely think it degrades women.. perhaps this would be easier if they stuck to one statement per line.

Racism and sexism make double the oppression of women in the work environment.

Well, depends if you're a target of racism doesn't it?

These questions are ridiculous.

independentthinker21 Sat 29-Apr-17 08:24:53

What is Marxist feminism? I don't see that much current feminism is oppositional to capitalism, and I don't think capitalism has a particular problem with feminism anymore the better as far as the market economy is concerned. In fact, the more women who are out there working and consuming the better. There is no purer expression of late capitalist values than 'Sex and the City' and Cosmopolitan. 'Feminist' women who are high achievers like to call themselves SHEO's rather than CEO's and be as ambitious and competitive as the men. I understand that consumer capitalism offered women a way out of oppression when none other was available, but it's all gone very wrong.

This is quite good.

What type of feminist are you, independent, or have you not done the quiz?

DJBaggySmalls Sat 29-Apr-17 08:38:49

Women of Colour/Socialist/Radical around the 48 - 46 mark
Cultural 14
Conservative 10.

Which is odd as I genuinely thought I was a radical feminist.

TheElephantofSurprise Sat 29-Apr-17 08:44:58

Radical feminist 49
Liberal feminist 48
Socialist feminist 36
Women of Color 33
Cultural feminist 29
Conservative 11

I thought of myself as a 'radical feminist' before I took the test but not one of the questions directly addressed my take on feminism.
The test is based on the presumed-experience of American women, a UK one might be different.
The questions were biased/slanted quite often, particularly where two issues were linked in one question.
Some questions, eg this Beauty is feeling one's womanhood through peace, caring, and nonviolence are just bizarre.

The Feminist Perspectives Scale differentiates between a generic brand of non-feminism (conservative perspetive) and six types of feminism. Your calculated score are at the right, although you should only take these scores as a guide. Only you can truly decide what idealogy you follow.

QuentinSummers Sat 29-Apr-17 11:19:31

Liberal 42
Radical/women of colour 40

I don't like labels Assassinated

AssassinatedBeauty Sat 29-Apr-17 13:57:54

Oh what a shame, independent. Of course, you don't have to accept that it's a label that you actually agree with and apply to yourself. I wouldn't, if I disagreed with the results this simple quiz churned out for me. As it happens, Radical Feminist was the top score, but I didn't need this quiz to tell that's where my personal attitudes seem to sit.
