What's a vagina?

Thinking over the trans threads where people claim to have a fully functioning vagina when they have what looks to me to be an equivalent of a wank sock, I was wondering what is a vagina? ("What is a women" is so last month!!!)

Well, it's a fibromuscular tube,
It expands when sexually aroused,
It provides lubrication,
The walls have soft folds of mucous membrane that expand or contract to the size of the penis during sex,
can stretch to many times its size as the birth canal.

So far so good - in addition, I think it can feel intense emotions too - when my kids feel pain and the time when I am in shock - not just any old pain but say I saw them fall down and hurt themselves real bad - then I can feel it in my vagina. What's that all about?

Is it the female equivalent of thinking with your dick??

Also the vagina does some amazing stuff during birth- it completely changes shape and turns into a kind of natural trampoline!

It's a pretty amazing piece of engineering. Self cleaning, with a balance of flora to keep it functioning correctly. Self lubricating, not just to facilitate sex and birth, but to provide the flora with the perfect environment to live. Can change shape and size depending on what it's being used for, but returns to it's previous size and shape afterwards (all things being equal)

A neovagina merely shares a shape with a vagina, even a post menopausal vagina takes less looking after.

It's not just a hole like an especially deep belly button, it's a muscular orifice more like a mouth - I can use those muscles - make it shorter to make the stem on my menstrual cup closer so I can grab it, squeeze more than one set of muscles up its length.

It's not passively sitting there, it's an active part of me that moves and does things and changes throughout the month.

I never appreciated what an amazing thing the vagina is until I read the trans threads on here. Reading the stuff about gender reassignment surgery really opened my eyes.

I would say the fact that it leads to a cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries is a pretty important point. If it didn't lead to those parts, it would not perform it's main duties - to allow semen to reach an egg and to be a passage out for the uterine lining.

All those things above - and I'm reassured to know it's not just me who does the involuntary, almost painful clench thing when someone I love gets hurt or I'm faced with a bleeding wound.

The hymen is a fairly mysterious part of the vagina. It's there to protect the opening from beetles or whatever crawling up there during a woman's youth. Obviously it's been warped by patriarchy to check a girl's virginity.

I've heard of surgery that can reconstruct the hymen, (yeah dodgy weird Virgin fantasy stuff) but not sure if any surgeon could create one in a neo-vagina.

Also... the G spot. I never knew I had one till I gave birth.

The vagina is so much more than a hole for a dick to go in.
The fact that we are in a place now that we even need to point this out is horrendous.

The way there's much more to the clitoris than the bit that is visible on the outside - it extends down the front wall of the vagina and has two "arms" that wrap round the opening of the vagina. Wonderful (and has some wonderful effects too Grin).

Yy, stormwhale - it's a passage that allows sperm to travel up and babies to travel down. It isn't just a cul de sac orifice

Beetles?

Yep. Not sure a neo vagina would deal with a babies head!!
It's amazing really that vaginas can do birth and then go back to (roughly!!) Then same as before. You wouldn't be able to tell a woman had given birth from her vadge.
I agree with M0stly that clits are also amazing. It's so fascinating that the scale of them has only been recently understood. They are not just a button!

Christ! I need to comment, OP - I get that weird pain in my vagina when I see people hurt themselves. Even on those videos of men crashing bikes and falling off roofs etc. What is that??

The other day DH and I were walking past a playground, reminiscing about when DD used to play there, and I said something about the feeling when she was at the top of the steps of the slide and wobbled a bit...and he was baffled ... duh, you people know!Grin

Post meno, respond well to a teeny amount of oestrogen a couple of times a week.

That was what got me wondering wtf?
The birth canal and sex aspect is obv well know but I hadn't appreciated how flexible and adaptive it is.
But the pain thing is something different altogether... and I don't know what it is.

Trevor Noah talking about a vagina/pussy not to be called weak.

"Don’t be a pussy.” Yes. Because it implies weakness. Do not be like the vagina. The vagina that is weak. Don’t be a pussy … and yet, in my personal experience, I have found the pussy to be one of the strongest things I have ever come across in my life. "Don’t be a pussy?" Have you ever come across a pussy? You realize vaginas can start revolutions and end wars. You realize, even on a physical level, the vagina is one of the strongest things that have ever existed. Virtually indestructible. Many men in this room have tales of how they once defeated the pussy. Let me tell you now, they have not. The owner of the pussy may have given you the impression that you defeated the pussy, but it is alive and well, my friends. Whenever people say that, I go, “Do you understand how impressive the vagina is? Do you understand how strong it is?” There’s a reason men have sought to oppress it for so long. The vagina is frighteningly powerful. You realize that human beings come out of a vagina. Human beings come out and still it continues to work as intended. Do you understand how impressive that is? A human being comes out of the vagina. And still, it continues to operate, it continues to work, after a human has just come out. You’re saying it’s weak? You just sit on a penis wrong and it breaks.

“Don’t be a penis,” that should be the phrase. I wish I was a pussy. Are you serious right now?

My DS know that if I overhear one of their mates describe someone as a cunt I'll say, "Deep, warm and extremely popular." Family joke.
