Before this I gets deleted, too, did anything happen to make it worse in the last 50 odd posts?

I don't think so. It was a great topic but got derailed very early on. I wonder if we should have a sticky in Feminist Chat- you know that list of common derailments on feminist subjects- e.g 1. Your topic is a trivial first world problem 2. How can I hate women, my mum's one 3. NAMALT etc etc. Then when some tenacious bloke wants to go through the derailment bingo card we can simply say , "Refer to #3" and carry on talking about whatever we were talking about.
It was a pity it derailed, it was a good subject.

I don't see why it was deletable.

Someone suggested little message MNHQ and get it back up

Did she try that does anyone know?

Which one has vanished? There have been a few candidates of late.

We could just ignore the derailers without there being a sticky thread, (we do not owe them explanations) but yes, a sticky thread would be nice, too.

Why did it go? It wasn't particularly awful.

I was agog. I will say no more.

I was kind of on it, but not much as it was just the same old same old. Did something suddenly kick off and it got pulled?

Or did one of the derailers feel bullied and complain?

Report
powershowerforanhour · 27/10/2016 06:57

Suspect the latter. But the thread officially got deleted for derailment. Which is odd, given that this would seem to encourage anyone who didn't really have FWR discussion at heart.
I mean, if you know that you can get threads deleted for derailment, what's to stop you and a few friends having some sport getting MNHQ to TippEx half the board if you fancy it. Easily done- there are 50 ways to leave your lover and almost as many derailment methods, most of which got a run out on that thread.

There was so much useful, thoughtful stuff.and people put so much effort into trying to answer the OP's questions. And some of the other contributors were providimg an object lesson in what feminists deal with on a regular basis. I am very disappointed that it has been deleted. And unless something happened in the last 30 posts I just canMtmunderstand why it was.

I suspect it might have had something to do with one of the trolls throwing about unfounded and entirely incorrect accusations of one or other poster sending really nasty abusive messages to a male poster. I also suspect that MNHQ might have had some difficulty in deleting the trolling, given that, after about page 7, that was the main discourse. If there is a 1000 post limit on threads, it doesn't matter if that's 1000 actual useful posts or 1000 deletion messages. Given the saturation level of the two trolls posting from about half way in, it would have meant the latter half of the thread was deletion messages and disjointed replies to the trolling IYSWIM?

Yes, I'm sure it was the allegations 'naming names' crap which got it pulled.

I logged off at about 930 messages. By that stage, the trolls (or possibly troll singular with lots of puppets) had got rather frothy, but I've looked at other threads on here that have been just as bad in terms of trolls being adversarial and being rebutted. I've also seen more than one thread which was derailed. What does not seem 'fair' is that a poster asked a perfectly legitimate question and an interesting debate unfolded, even if it was derailed. The derailment was the fault of trolls who appeared to have no agenda other than being inflammatory. When they were overpowered by reason and logic and WOMEN they had hissy fits. I'm not sure that any of the legitimate women posters were harmed (up until about 930 posts anyway) - so why pull a legitimate thread because it got derailed by trolls and they got their just desserts? So I echo Bertrand in saying;

"There was so much useful, thoughtful stuff.and people put so much effort into trying to answer the OP's questions. Just seems to me that the trolls didn't get their first prize (having their proverbials sucked by a bunch of adulating women), or their second (fighting all dem nasty wimmin and winning, thus proving that they were both powerful and nice, but they did get their third (their humiliation being removed from public view).

I'd like the thread back!

Oh one of our half-term visitors was stirring the pot. One poster said they'd received a nasty PM off someone on the thread. Didn't name names. One of the trolls jumped on the bandwagon and said they'd received abusive PMs too (and lots of supportive ones too Confused). All fairly standard stuff. Then about 6 pages later another poster mentioned that she'd liked some of the earlier posts by a couple of regulars and said troll came one speculating that one of those regulars was going to be banned. The implication being that one of them had sent the nasty pms. Which was bollocks. But this was only in the last 70 posts or so. His post and a couple of others could have been deleted to protect those regular posters. there was no need to delete the entire thread.

Gawd... seems I missed all the 'fun'. I agree though that simply removing the offending posts would have been enough. Thanks heaps for filling me in.

I reported a post where potential candidates for sending the abusive posters were named. It seems to me that deleting that post would have been sufficient.
