Price of women up in China

The effects of the one-child policy and people's way of dealing with itmaking sure that their one child is a boy, by selective abortion or killing a few surplus girlshas had the inevitable result. Now families are paying big money so men can have wives. Not that the women themselves will get any of that money, of course. Funny how no baby girls then leads to no young women now; what a surprise it must be when that happens.

Someone on here said, years ago, that less women in a society and women's rights get worse. How right they are Sad.

The problem is that they probably did predict that less female babies will equal less female adults. They just didn't care. Because women are a commodity to be bought and sold. That's why they didn't want them in the first place.

It's fucking heartbreaking.

I think what's actually most interesting about this is how it highlights the effect millions of individual choices have on a society. You have lots and lots of parents making a fairly pragmatic decision about what sex they want the one child they're allowed to be, and next thing you know... this.

If anything, I find it surprising that the scale of the problem isn't even greater.

The same thing has been happening in India, with young women being sent (or bought, or traded: however you want to word it) far away from their families to marry men in different regions and who speak different languages even. I'll see if I can find the original story, because it was dreadful for the women, as always.

Weird idea should be illegal to buy a bride and sell a person daughter in 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't like that in Sweeden and Germany too.
