Italian court says sexual harassment ok

'Groping women in the workplace', Italian judges rule dailym.ai/1PhVzYs via dailym.ai/android

Sorry for DM link. An Italian man prosecuted for sexual harassment has been acquitted because the judge didn't feel his inappropriate touching of female subordinates was for sexual pleasure.

So, it's now the claimed intention of the defendant rather than the actual impact on the victim that matters?

I know we have separate crimes of manslaughter vs murder, partly due to intent to kill, but surely this can't apply to this sort of case? "Honest, m'lord, I only grabbed her boobs for a bit of fun!"

I despair.

You have to remember that it was OK to do this kind of thing back in the day
I don't mind older guys calling me honey or love as they don;t mean anything by it, it was the way people kinda got on back in those day
Everyone likes to be a victim and get a claim these days
The women he did this on could have slapped him or told him to f off, instead of taking him to court.
We are strong women, we can kick ass on old men :-)

And so? Lot's of things 'were OK' or at least widely practised back in the day that aren't OK (or even legal) now.

This being Italy though, I can't say I'm surprised. Excellent food, countryside and cultural interest, not very progressive when it come to womens rights.

And SO, he clearly didnt mean anything by it which was my point and the judges BTW. Thats why me and the judge have common sense and you are posting crap on mumsnet all day xoox

Would you slap your boss and tell him to fuck off Nic?

i would talk to him first, tell him to knock it off, he is a old gent me might understand that i am offended
then i would talk to his superior and tell them he needs to knock it off
then i would tell him i was going to stab him in the balls with a pencil if he did it again
then i would actually stab him in the balls with said pencil if he did
then i would consider legal action if that didnt work

I see. Sounds a sensible and mature way to handle it.

Well great for you that you're prepared to endure lengthy sexual harassment and possibly prosecution for assault in order to stop someone helping themselves to your body. I just think there should be an easier way, one that doesn't require me to shoulder the burden of someone else's actions, that's all.

Yeah ok nic slapping your boss will be seen as ok to do. You won't get sacked. Or more than likely punched straight back. Ffs

nic0teen · 04/02/2016 11:55

indeed thanks :-)
if more people took up this attitude the courts would be free to spend more time investigating actual crimes against women
Over and out xoox

Why nic do you think men should have Mutiple chances to treat your body like a possession they own. Bollocks to it was a different time, my grandad would never touch or harass a women.

I think the clue's in the name (teen). Our half term doesn't start until next week. Perhaps Nic is on study leave?

Report
Lancelottie · 04/02/2016 11:59

Or maybe there would BE even more crimes against women for the police to investigate, nic0teen.

it was OK to send small kids up the chimney back in the day...
we are talking 2015/16 not about the past scenarios

In a statement published by a local newspaper, union representatives said: '[The ruling] ignores the sensitivity and dignity of the working women and at the same time unfathomably permits the sexual violence, which was perpetrated even if on a small scale.

Women shouldn't have to fight by punching their bosses or any males around to preserve their dignity! That suggestion is bonkers

nic0teen are you actually reading what you are writing?

I can't believe any woman would be writing what you typed on this thread.
You joined MN today and are full of some queer comments.

Allow me. Ahem.

And then a judge would rule that it was fine for this to be done to you.
And then some wanker on the internet would say "Everyone likes to be a victim and get a claim these days".

Over and out xoox

OP I agree, I despair and I worry for my daughter's future. I'd like to think that the UK is more sensible than Italy but then I hear comments from British judges and realise that we're no better really.

Is this any different from the recent decision in the DJ Neil Fox case?

The judges in that said in their judgement that they were in no doubt that he had gone around grabbing women's breast etc., but that it wasn't proved to be sexual so didn't meet the definition of the offence.

(He later claimed to have been vindicated by the acquittal, but that was a very generous interpretation of the decision. In actual fact the judge publicly stated that they believed his victims.)

FreshwaterSelkie · 04/02/2016 12:57

I think the only bit they got right is that it wasn't sexual. I can believe that - the power's the thing, not the sex. Eurgh. What a creep.

No idea WTF Nic is smoking, but I'd like some too, it'd be great to not see fucking misogyny everywhere I look. You should see if you can get an internship with the Mayor of Cologne, Nic, she thinks women should just be able to keep men at arms length, too! You could both bond over complaining about these silly, silly feminists with their insistence on putting the responsibility for all this shit on gropey creepy men when any woman worth her salt could just stab him in the balls and be done!

I believe 'xoox' is meant to denote the number '9' in binary, which is Nic0teen's mental age.

I love it when posters do that sort of stuff. It's like those job adverts you see for MI5.

Especially since he/she refers to a pencil. I think an adult is more likely to use a biro.

It appears to be code for

I'm a fuckwit and have a desperate need to make absolutely sure that everyone knows

Or

I'm a teenage boy, who thinks he's really funny, but secretly knows I'm a douchecanoe

I might be wrong though.

Twat.
