Can we have a general Trans thread?

Sorry for another trans thread and I feel this is a bit of an imposition given I don't post really.

Anyway reading FWR over the past few months has re-radicalised me. I've been reading lots here and wider.

Anyway just now been watching TV and there's been some stuff that's given me the rage but didn't seem to fit in existing threads or it's own thread.

Anyway thing that gave me the rage.
On BBC3 program on transgemder teen's the doctor just said "creating a vagina". Are doctors redefining vagina as pocket rather than a passage? Makes me want to screem.

Also Sarah Ditum being no platformed.

I was going to start a thread about Sarah Ditum's no platforming. Read all about it here:

www.feministcurrent.com/2015/12/03/jaccuse-sarah-ditum-no-platformed-for-er-were-not-sure-but-someone-said-something-somewhere/

Someone accused her of being a transphobe, even though she isn't a transphobe, but because someone accused her of it, she was deselected.

Transphobic. There's that word again. I don't think it means what people think it means.

If we go by the Everyday Feminism version of transphobe, it's actually quite hard not to be one.

VestalVirgin · 04/12/2015 15:29

Knowing basic biology and talking about it makes you transphobic.

I think the suggestion of one of the Twitterers was great. Have an event with just no-platformed feminists. Julie Bindel, Germaine Greer, Sarah Dirum... Call it No Platform. I'd go.

I'd go as well, MrsTerryPratchett

In fact I want to help organise it.

Kate Smurthwaite, Maryam Namazie. It would be absolutely brilliant.

Ooh that would be great.

It's the no-platforming that gives me the rage. Feminists, addressing women's issues, being told to shut up. How is that not misogyny?

Also, I need to do some proper homework. because as far as I can tell, there is an issue with transwomen in jail but not transmen in jail. Seems to be a combination of men's safety being important and women's not and transwomen committing violent crime at the same rate as men. But transmen not adopting the crime rate of men when they transition. So much for lady-brain.

I think I read somewhere that transmen are as violent as men, while transwomen are also as violent as men. Seems that if you work really, really hard on it, you can become as violent as a male ... not that that's something to aspire to. I have to find the data somewhere.

Men's safety is not threatened anyway - either transmen go to men's prisons, where they are vulnerable to male violence and less of a threat to men than the other men, or they go to women's prisons, where they are not men's problem, regardless of violent or not violent they are.

It makes sense Vestal. You want to emulate men, what's the most obvious trait? Misogyny, violence and a penis. So you (I only know transmen who date women) objectify and "dominate" women, strap on a packer and become more violent pretty much an accurate description of every transman who's ever tried to pull me

And, as ever, women are left on their own - transmen desperate to disassociate themselves, transwomen failing to grasp what an actual women is and men doing both of the above. Whoopee for us

How many feminists have been no-platformed for "transphobia" or other things so far?

Report
VestalVirgin · 05/12/2015 11:05

@slugs: front hole would be appropriate for what they are creating in transwomen. Or maybe call it a vagina (the word has patriarchal origins anyway) and find a better description for the anatomy of actual women.

Or, you know call it a "pseudo-vagina" or such.

Another one who would go to "no platform"

Some loon on Twitter was saying that people who call TW male are terrorists, the "logic" being that it causes them panic attacks to read that and that's physical harm and that's the same as terrorism.

Women who would suffer panic attacks from sharing intimate space with males clearly don't matter though

There was an episode of JK this week Blush who had a guest on talking about a relationship she had over several months, she lost her virginty and had a sexual relationship with someone she thought was a male and she found out later it was a female, after the police told her as her partner had also led another woman to believe he was male. The person was charged with sexual activity by deceit (can't remember the exact wording)which puzzled me, as I thought trans men and women didn't have to disclose their birth sex to anyone?

The young girl was really upset, she felt tricked, and because she hadn't seen a naked male before and her partner took lots of steps to ensure she never saw his body (lights off, kept clothes in as said had scars etc) she felt embarrassed at not knowing.

Statement from her partner said he's sorry for upsetting her, but he should have been born male and has since moved on and had fully transitioned and she needs to move on too and stop raking it up all the time.

Would a TW having sex with a man or woman without mentioning they are trans, be committing the same crime? Was just curious and seem to find anyone on google.

I doubt sex by deception applies to men, as when was the last time you needed to say more than "hey fancy doing it"

Interesting question. I don't think there would be a conviction if a transwoman did this to a woman. There would be lots of whining about the "cotton ceiling".

Transwomen who initiate sex with men without disclosing their trans status would be more at risk of being beaten up in a homophobic rage than at risk of being dragged to court, I think.

"and there's been some stuff that's given me the rage" when something gives you the rage, you don't look for a forum to vent it on, you calmly think about why you are angry and decide a proper response, IF the problem is where you think it is to begin with. God, I thought we had left this type of sentiment back in the paleolithic era...
