Grumblings about sport

There is a short documentary about roller derby on iPlayer at the moment. As I've recently got into roller derby myself I watched it, pleased to see the sport was getting some exposure. But a couple of things have irritated me.

1. The short synopsis says something like "looks at why women play roller derby". Why is this needed? Is it common to say a documentary is looking at why men play rugby/football/cycling/boxing? Could they have not just left it as "looking at the rise of roller derby"?
   

1. This was a 20 minute documentary and yet screen time was given to watching women in their day jobs and home life. When men talk about their amateur sports do they also talk about their jobs and families? It's not relevant to the sport. I want to see and hear about the game, not watch someone washing dishes.

Will they have a documentary about soccer, soon? I always wanted to know why adult men run after a ball and try to kick it into a goal, and millions of people pay millions to watch them do it.

It's a mystery to me! So, I would like "Looking at why men play football/soccer."

(I suppose the purpose of this roller derby thing is to show that these women are "still feminine" or some shit?)

The same was true of the women in the World Cup, wasn't it? There was a lot of focus on their personal lives in the way that doesn't happen with men.

I'm not against mentioning these things in principle, I just think it should be approached in a different way. I think it's pretty amazing that female football players aren't paid enough for the sport to be their only job so manage to do a full time job as well as being at the top of their game in football. I think that's a lot more interesting than the stuff they actually went with.
