Made about Andy Murray's female coach appointed in June 2014, due a baby in August 2015

"She's done the usual thing. Taken a job and then got pregnant straightaway"

I think I'd be responding with piss off wanker but then Im not famed for my eloquence or pretty manners!

"Yes, it happens quite a bit"

I'd say "what's wrong with that?" but then I'm not very confrontational.

"Usual? What percentage of women do that? Also, what do you think "straightaway" means?"

I remember the same stuff about RAF pilots, in the past an using it as an excuse to block entry.

I'd respond with 'Huh' and then get them to explain the comment - makes them look unreasonable/irrational then.

Pointing out it can't be that usual, I've been working for the past 15 years, had a number of jobs, but only been pregnant twice, she's been a coach since 2010 and only been pregnant once.

And that for every pregnant woman, there's the bloke who participated in her getting pregnant, who may also have just started a job - so it's just as usual for men as women no?

I'd ask "just how many times is it that has she done that ?"

How about: "Yes, you're right the way the employment market in this country operates is stupid. How can the people responsible for providing the workers to pay your pension be treated with so little respect?"

Got pregnant? Did it happen by magic?

I'd probably keep asking questions along similar lines until the utter twatbadger had retracted or left, permanently.

I'd reply with something equally stupid.

"Actually, it's a scientific fact that moving jobs makes women more fertile."

On the plus side, saw some nice photos of Amelie avec bump on court coaching Andy before Wimbledon. Rather amazing as I'd thought pregnancy instantly rendered competent women utterly incapable of any mental or physical work.

And also thought that, judging by her arm muscles, she (along with some of the other former and current top female tennis players- indeed sportswomen in general - who aren't willowy blondes with a good line in smiley deference) MUST be Actually A Man.
Pregnant?? Blew my mind. Guess she is actually a Proper Woman after all. Just one whose job involved repetitive use of arm muscles and thus, really strangely and totally unexpectedly, developed strong arm muscles.

I would ask which would they prefer as an alternative:
a) women of fertile age to be banned from working?
b) the human race to die off?

Is it possible for you to remove the person who made that comment from your life? What a dangerously idiotic person to have a voice.

Eleleleo I often use that response when I hear comments like this. Usually only after I've asked them to repeat themselves a couple of times to see if they notice that they sound a bit silly.

'usual thing?'

And your evidence for that is?

Report

There was some research recently (around players of online games) that has indicated that only low status (low scoring in this case) male players were upset by high achieving female players.

The high achieving men had no problem with the high scoring female players.

It was on the BBC news website I think. Might be an interesting topic of discussion with your FIL...
