Hello all. I am finding myself a bit frustrated tonight after a fruitless search, and I hope you can help me.

At Brownies tomorrow evening I am doing "Women in the World". I want to start by asking what a woman is, then do some activities about inspirational women (e.g. Amelia Erheart, etc) and I wanted to finish by reading some sort of "letter to a young girl" which encourages them to go out and take on the world.

However, all I can seem to find is aimed a bit high. We are doing a separate session on body image and self esteem, and I don't want to bring up more teenage upwards topics like gender politics. I just want something that says "you go, girl!" And is actually aimed at girls, not young women or adults.

So, does anyone know anything like this? And if not... What would you say to a young girl getting ready to face the world?

Many thanks for your input!

Have you seen this book? it looks like something you could make use of!

There might be something on Jump that you could use, it's aimed at the right age group. The fiction books sold via there are also girl-positive, with a strong girl main character. (I know that isn't precisely what you were asking for, but all the little things around us can help to contribute to our self-esteem)

And finally: maybe this will be useful

Thanks again. Have downloaded "how to be a wonder woman" and "girls don't need no education". Perfect!

Inspirational girls/women that might appeal to that age group: Mary Anning, Helen Keller, Grace Darling, Ada Lovelace.
