Disney insists on Miss/Mrs title - should I complain? how?

today I booked tickets to disneyland paris. the website insists that everyone should have a title. the options are: Miss / Mrs / Mr.

No option for Ms. No option for Dr (my preferred title cos I earned it). No option to leave the title blank.

It is a silly little thing, but very annoying. can anything be done?

Is it because they have a french system that they translated and don't have the equivalent in France?

Not saying that that excuses it but might explain why!

Definitely worth ringing up and asking and complaining. I'd also tweet them a question and leave it on their facebook page too, that often gets their attention...

I'm getting a little tired of this 'complain' culture.

What, no Princess option? Wink

I'd contact them and politely encourage more options - doesn't have to be worded like a complaint.

Forgive me if im wrong, DropYourSword, but that sounds a bit like a complaint there Wink

OP I'd drop them an email to point out they're missing a very commonly used title and that if they want to gather correct information from people then they should add it.

Interesting. The Disney World Orlando site has both Ms and Dr.

Complain? I've heard it all now. Choose your battles.

Ask them to drop all titles - they are utterly pointless things. Unless you go around generally introducing yourself as Ms A B, or Mr C D, or Dr E F in which case you're weird

Have you ever seen the Royal Opera House's options? Click on other in the first box, then look at he second Grin

Maybe Diddly Grin

I think if you want to make a comment to Disney that more title choices would be nice that's fine. But to complain about things like this, to me, makes people sound that they get offended by the littlest things and are ridiculously entitled and bored, with nothing better to do with their lives than to create issues and arguments out of nothing.

I'm with GoneGirl, choose your battles.
I have having to fill in online forms that have a stupidly long list of titles, (Right Hon. Admiral Seaman or whatever) for the sake of political correctness. Congratulations for earning the Dr title but does it really mean any more to you because it's printed on your Disney tickets?

But my title isn't Miss or Mrs DropYourSword so what could I do other than complain?

Report
DiddlyBiddly · 23/01/2015 13:37

TBH I'm surprised that somewhere like Disney isn't insistent on names on tickets matching passports/ID.

I don't see this as a 'battle'. I don't see any harm in spending a couple of minutes sending off an email. They may make a change, they may not. It's up to you how much time you invest in this going forwards, which given that this is likely to rate as a minor irritation rather than huge concern, probably wouldn't be much!

so what could I do other than complain?

You could comment. Commenting to someone is different to complaining.

Or you could pick the title closest to yours. I have selected Ms. before despite NEVER using that title, as there was no option for Miss or Mrs. Just doesn't bother me.

I agree, especially considering that they have these title choices on their US sites.

I'm happy to comment rather than complain. And I don't mind not being Dr that much, but I do hate being forced into the box of Mrs or Miss. Neither really applies because I'm married but kept my maiden name. No title would be best.

I hate being forced to be a Ms. I have no idea why, but everything is now addressed to Ms Infinity, and it drives me potty. I was happy with Miss. Men don't stop being Mr when they reach a certain age - and I'm in my early 20's.

Men don't have a title based on their marital status, either. So why should women?

Tbh I find the whole thing of titles outdated and unnecessary. What purpose do they actuly serve?

We've been there before on mumsnet. They serve the purpose of public-space distance. Formality if you prefer - but some of us appreciate a little distance on first acquaintance or public space. Taking the personal out of a public space can be v useful.

I am in exactly the same boat as you parietal, and I completely agree. I said pretty much the same thing to the bank when they reissued my card in the name of 'Miss Partridge' even though I'd been married for 2 years, had informed them of my change in status from 'Miss' to 'Dr' during that time and was patiently waiting for the card to expire so I could have one with the correct title on.

Funnily enough they changed it rather quickly (though doubtless with some Hmm looks).

zipzap France has 'officially' dropped mademoiselle (equivalent of miss) from government forms etc. Will take time to work through society but the aim is to have either monsieur or mademoiselle only.

Report
SirChenjin · 23/01/2015 14:08

Titles serve no purpose whatsoever, unless it's specifically related to your role in the workplace eg Dr Chen ensures that patients know who they are talking to in that consultation and what my role would be in their treatment. Whether you've obtained it through inheritance, marriage or work outside of that setting is immaterial - it's a pointless prefix on a ticket, nothing more.

I suspect it's a straight translation of Madame/mademoiselle but yeah, drop them a line.
