A fb friend has just posted this article, saying there's a lot of truth in it:
conservativewoman.co.uk/laura-perrins-call-sexodus-men-retreat-women/
I've read it and it's made me hopping mad. Please tell me it's not just me?

Oh good lord. "Boo hoo feminists hate men and are scary! And men aren't allowed to be men anymore!"

And then I read the comments... well now I know where all the MRAs hang out in their spare time.

In short, no it's not just you. Angry

Thank goodness for that!

Someone has posted on the fb post that women just don't understand men and their needs, or how women's actions can impact on men.

I'm going to have to turn off notifications on this post or I may explode...

Women's actions impact on men? Hmmmm. I'm finding it tricky to sympathise much when it's still women's actions that are so heavily policed in order to keep us safe from men (don't dress provocatively, don't drink, stay in groups, don't walk home alone) and yet hundreds of women are still subject to male violence daily. But you know, heaven forbid that anyone suggest men actually make any changes to the way they are socialised in order to reduce male violence or make life bearable for men who don't match the masculine stereotype. Hmm

We need a more exasperated eye-rolling emoticon.

I wish these people would make their bloody minds up. We're mad lefties, feminising education and stopping men being masculine in any way, or we're part of the reactionary right, feminising education and stopping men being anything much.

This feminising education shit is actually beyond funny. Have none of these people ever read anything about Victorian schooling? Boys, expected to sit, silently and write or recite and learn by rote. All things that are apparently features of feminised education. Not sure that women had too much influence over Victorian education, or any age's education before it either.

No one has ever said that masculinity is a bad thing. Toxic masculinity, such as violence, abuse, and harassment is a bad thing, it always has been except when being focussed by a government against a foe. Perhaps all these men saying that violence in men is ok, would like us to start up jousting and melée for them to let of steam, in the same way that they did in the middle ages?

Sorry, ranting a bit, but the attitude in that article makes me tired and grumpy.

And if we don't, so what? Why are women responsible for understanding men and their needs? It's like we're some type of servant class or something.

How many men understand women and their needs and how their actions impact women?

Good grief it's just one misconception after another isn't it? Irreconcilable viewpoints?

Some bits I really loved:

"Yiannopoulos is correct when he states that men can go it alone more easily than women, whether in life in general and indeed sexually." - Really? I'd argue the other way round, judging by how often men claim they need sex and how they can't use a washing machine / cook.

"for men the old deal of getting married and supporting a family is first very difficult as wages continue to stagnate and there is very little status attached" - Not applicable solely to men is it? Nor do men 'support the family' alone even financially now let alone anything else. Back to the washing machine / cooking: but that doesn't count.

"feminists wallowing in their own victimhood at the expense of men thereby claiming ever more privileges. The latest is the claim of a ‘rape culture’ on campuses" Yeah cos rape doesn't exist really. We can all pull that one apart.

And most of all - "heterosexual men are retreating, not just from marriage but also from intimate relationships entirely." - Unlike the author I have just two words to say about this group of retreating males - Good Riddance!

'Conservative feminism' is pure comedy, whats sad is that it will probably be the Tories that put a women up for PM before Labour or the Lib dems.

Dating websites are heavily outnumbered by women - that's a load of rubbish right off the bat. Its like 7 men to one woman!

I don't think as a woman your would want to even date one of these guys!

I never know if the people that write this kind of stuff really believe it, or if they are just very good at writing stuff that pokes peoples buttons as a way to further their political aims.

I almost hope that they're just really good at creating these arguments rather than that they actually mean it.

Is that true about gender balance on dating websites? Not to doubt your word over the internet Grin but do you have a reference or anything? I did notice that figure and wondered, but have never used...

The comments hit the nail on the head- marriage for men is a risk not worth taking these days. Any day the woman gets bored or wants a new guy she can divorce the men take half his money and kick him out the house.

The divorce laws have been sculpted by decades of feminism, they are designed to screw men left, right, centre.

lots of references there (quora) - seems it's not as simple a question as it seems, but no-one's there suggesting it's very skewed either way

What utter pish. Divorce laws have been written and passed by predominantly male governments. Don't like that? Vote for women.

And what NoUnauthorisedParking said.

because wanting women to be seen and treated as fully human is all about screwing men. Riiiight.

xpedicure - the bloke has exactly the same freedoms and gets equal treatment in court......

In my case for example, DP is silly for not marrying me yet (both bone-idle rather than anti-marriage) - I brought property to our relationship, I on our joint mortgage - if we split I get my share of our house, and get to keep my existing property. If we were married we would both share both.

"men can go it alone more easily than women"

On a related note, one sometimes hears that men's life expectancy is increased by marriage and women's decreased - is that true, does anyone know?

As others have said, don't marry if it doesn't suit you, it's no loss to anyone.

Bizarrely, while nobody will force you to get married, plenty of young girls will be forced. You'd think they'd be lining up.

xpedicure · 15/12/2014 18:48

So why are you all complaining about all the men who are choosing to avoid marriage? Why is it such a loss to you?

Apocalypse... from ICRW

One third of girls in the developing world are married before the age of 18 and 1 in 9 are married before the age of 15.

So, yeah, forced marriages of female children.
