I've seen it once. Here on this thread blush

PuffinsAreFictitious Sun 07-Dec-14 20:32:56

Every. Bloody. Day.

messyisthenewtidy Sun 07-Dec-14 20:49:41

Quite a lot. Ultimate strawmanism equating a movement for equality with one that murdered millions of people!!

Love the post card Puffins.

Mostly only on the internet, occasionally with friends (as in, "Are we being raging feminazi harpies again? Oh well.")

MollyBdenum Sun 07-Dec-14 21:52:02

Not as often I encounter "Breastapo", but still far too many times.

Hazchem Sun 07-Dec-14 22:04:03

Yeah I hear breastpo more then feminazi but they maybe as i hang out in places obsessed with boobs. Only on the internet however. Yet to have someone say it out loud. It's a bit like the mummy wars. I see none of that happening in my day to day life and am increasingly thinking it is part of the patriarchy plot to keep women busy with nonsense so we don't get on with he real work of smashing down the barriers that prevent women from being treated as people.

I remember being called this by a then very good friend (who was trying to impress some guys in our hostel/hotel bar) when we were on a short christmas trip about 10 years ago. I barely spoke to her for the rest of the trip and I was absolutely livid. Not just for the suggestion that my views had a militancy akin to a genocidal regime (I can still remember my blood boiling now!) but the casual way she bandied the term around without any thought.
I hate the word and still makes my blood boil now (not that you can tell..).

uutiric Sun 07-Dec-14 22:21:36

Maybe have a think why this word is used (by both men and women) so often?

Do you think non-feminist women appreciate having feminists bash their sons/husbands/brothers/male friends around the clock and having feminists call them names like pigs/rapists/stupid etc and hearing feminists trying to downplay male issues like prostate cancer and MGM?

If feminists did that, I'm sure that other people would find it annoying, including all the other feminists.

PuffinsAreFictitious Sun 07-Dec-14 22:27:13

I really don't know where to start with that uu. The absolute twattery of the whole of your second paragraph simply outdoes any possible ability I have to critique it in a way that you would even be able to approach comprehending. Are you suggesting that feminists have no males in their lives? Or that we hate the males in our lives? I realise that class analysis is going to whizz above your tiny cranium, but really, you might need to speak to some actual feminists without insulting them first and then you would see that only the straw feminists that inhabit your fevered imaginings actually behave in the way you describe.

You're not very bright, are you? Oh dear. Have a brew and some cake and a nice biscuit

I heard it in RL for the first time last week when I tried to explain to my DS(23) why I think the porn industry is just wrong!

DoctorTwo Sun 07-Dec-14 23:00:01

It's designed to shut down argument. And it seems to work. shock

Never heard breastapo though. That one's funny. grin

PuffinsAreFictitious Sun 07-Dec-14 23:50:19

Are you legion, per chance?

Not anymore fsmile

Hazchem Mon 08-Dec-14 03:29:25

Really DoctorTwo? Comparing women trying support and inform people about breastfeeding and the Gestapo is funny? Aware you might be being sarcastic but not sure.

UptoapointLordCopper Mon 08-Dec-14 07:25:47

"Maybe have a think ..."

Damn! That's what we went wrong! << slaps forehead >> Now my little feminist friends, go away and fucking think!

DoctorTwo Mon 08-Dec-14 07:50:30

Not at all Hazchem. I'm sure it's how DD1 would describe herself if she knew the term and take great delight in it. I believe breast is best and would happily be an advocate and supporter, but would probably have my intentions questioned. sad

FloraFox Mon 08-Dec-14 08:41:14

Always a good indication that the speaker needs to be given a swerve. For that, it has some utility.

Hazchem Mon 08-Dec-14 08:47:39

See I'm Ok with Lactivist DoctorTwo but find breastapo with associations of secret police all a bit nasty.
