I'm getting more and more interested in feminism. Sounds silly as I am a woman and and shouldn't I be anyway?!

I have two children - one boy and one girl and am mindful of the pink and blue trap for example. Dd is already bring labeled as a typical girl - she says it is her favourite colour (she's 2!). But I want to teach her that being a girl doesn't mean she will be a pink princess. Similar for my son - he's already coming out with the whole girls can't so x - picked up from his peers and I'm sure it will get worse.

So can anyone point me in the direction of books to read?

I believe in equality, I dont believe that we should treat boys and girls the same ie hormones etc mean that my children will have different needs at different times but that doesn't mean that one gender is better/stronger than the other. I don't believe in traditional roles e.g. mum stays at home, dad works but believe that parents should be there for their children full stop.

Thanks!

Cordelia Fine's Delusions of Gender is really good. It debunks the myths around the alleged differences between men's and women's brains.

YY to Cordelia Fine. Also, check out //www.lettoysbetoys.org.uk and Kat Banyard's The Equality Illusion is a nice easy introduction to feminism.

Mixed bag of essays here www.feminist-reprise.org/

Loads here radicalhubarchives.wordpress.com/

This isn't a feminist site, expressly, but it's run by a woman and often the articles are interesting for feminists mediadiversified.org/2013/08/01/the-symbolic-use-of-women/

I've loved everything by Andrea Dworkin, Mary Daly, Sheila Jeffreys (who's great on gender roles) and also Pornland by Gail Dines, Antiporn by Julia Long, anything by Marilyn Frye.
