Email received from Tesco just now:

Dear Bunnylion

Thank you for your email. My name is Tony and I am the Customer Service Manager who is responsible for answering your email.

I'm sorry to hear that the New Scientist magazine is still in the "men's interest" section, I do agree that does sound outdated, I will of course feed this back to Head Office and ask them to look into changing this.

Thank you for taking the time to bring this to my attention, If there is anything further I can do to help, please don?t hesitate to let me know.

Kind regards

Tony Thomas
Tesco Customer Service

Wait and see if they actually do anything!

Great, Bunny! I like this approach.

My sons are getting used to me coming out with statements eg "why is there only 1 female contest on this episode of Mastermind?"

Keep up the good work.

Oh, nice to see. Smile

Hope they move it.

They could also move the 'Homes and Gardens' stuff out of women's interests.

Why do they even need gender-specific magazine sections anyway? Just put them alphabetically or by topic eg motoring, children, DIY.

This is the grown-up equivalent of boys and girls toy sections.

It is bizarre, isn't it?

I wonder if they think it'll make more magazines sell - and if it actually does?

Imagine if they did this in the rest of the supermarket - all the 'normal' food in a women's section and the BBQ steaks, burgers etc in a man's section. Grin

They'd struggle with beer, wine and chocolate if our household was used as a marketing tool!

Bunnylion you did great!!!! My local Tesco is actually a place I look forward to visiting (even with two toddlers and a newborn in tow) as the staff there (well, the women I have spoken to) are lovely and remember me and my children, so I am really glad that man who wrote to you took this seriously.

Smile they got back to me within 24 hours.

I wasn't really expecting a reply but I thought I cant really get annoyed about something if I don't try and do anything about it.

Let's see if it changes.

Interesting. It must vary from Tesco to Tesco as I checked in mine tonight and there were sections for DIY, entertainment, science (where New Scientist was) etc. The only gender bit was the men's interest section which was the Loaded type magazines.
