Is it as bad for girls here as it is in the States?

I asked myself the question after reading

www.parenting.com/blogs/true-mom-confessions/janelle-hanchett/thigh-gap#.UVIlHihWXDU.facebook

I think the fact that my daughter's at a single sex school does help. Though the culture at my stepdaughter's school was less feminist/aspirational.

It is just as bad here. My 8 year old neice has told both her mother and her grandfather that she thinks she is fat and the only place this could be coming from is her school and the impressions she gets from the media and society (and her grandma - but thats a whole diffferent story)
She is not fat, she is beautiful and perfect just the way she is.
