BNP leader Nick Griffin has said people have the "right to discriminate"

Have you heard of this?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-20000954

The gay couple who were turned away from a B&B because of the owner's religious beliefs won in court. So Griffin then posts their home address on Twitter and asks people to give them a bit of "drama" (in other words people who hate gays to go hound them and give them trouble?).

In Griffin's defence he says discrimination is a right.

I would have thought his actions were not only against Twitter's terms of agreement but also illegal?

This sentence looks a bit ambigious. The gay couple won in court, not the religious owner of the B&B.

He's such a twat and clearly has no understanding of the law. I think Twitter has closed his account as a result.

His Twitter account is still there, I don't even want to link to it to give him the publicity. But it can be found on Twitter with a quick search.

I really don't get how someone so thick can end up an MEP. Confused Even I could out argue him.

Indeed, he is such a twat.

He isn't 'thick' though, if you mean 'of low intelligence'. He studied Law at Cambridge University.

I see Nick Griffin is still exercising his right to be an absolute cunt. He is definitely not stupid but he is a bad man.

If he studied law, doesn't he know the difference between 'a right' and 'illegal'? Confused

Are the police doing anything about this - it must be some sort of incitement or conduct liable to cause a breach of the peace? If any 'drama' does occur (has anyone risen to his foul bait), hope he gets prosecuted.

He studied Law at Cambridge? Well, he can't be totally thick then, and I'm very surprised he isn't more articulate, and better able to present an argument gracefully. Shock

According to Wikipedia he started off studying history, changed to law and only got a 2.2... but still. I think one must conclude that he knows perfectly well what is a legal right and what isn't, but ignores the fact in the hope of some rabble-rousing rhetoric.

Perhaps he got his vocabulary mixed up - and meant" discerning". Intelligent people can also be plain stupid at times He and his comment should be treated with the contempt it they both deserve.

Probably not in this thread, I'm not quite sure why its under feminism&women's rights (or do LBGT issues also get aired here? Confused)

But welcome anyway. Smile

sorry on wrong bit of site, told you i was a newbe, griffin? how can anyone say they support this person, discrimination is never right, hope he never gets never gets anywhere close to making policies in this country or any where else for that, i think he gives the 'slightly thick' act a lot of credence as his followers do not seem to be too smart, but he is a clever man who could sell snow to innuits and he knows how to work his crowd, there have been others in history who have had similar sway and it has ended very badly.

He's a moron

Given discrimination is prohibited by law (on certain grounds) it's pretty clear it isn't a right

He is an absolute and utter cunt and it freaks me out that there are people out there who don't think that..

Mrsfuzzy welcome

The feminist chat thread V has just been bumped - might be a good place to start!

Why on a thread started under feminism are people describing NG as something as warm, lovely and useful as a 'cunt'?

He's a nasty, warped rabble-rouser.

I'm not sure three years of a degree make up for a lifetime of bigoted idiocy. He is pretending to be thicker than he is, I think, though. If he really were stupid, he would be less dangerous. His arguments are intended to convince people who want a scapegoat and who can't see through the fact they are idiocy.

I haven't read the link or looked at twitter (obnoxious man and I hate reading about him/seeing him). But not all discrimination is illegal - discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics is illegal (so discrimination on basis of sexual orientation is illegal) - but if it's discrimination on basis of a non-protected characteristic then it is legal. For example - discriminating against someone because they don't have the same qualifications as someone else is legal, discriminating against someone because they are obnoxious (as in Griffin's case) is legal.

catgirl1976 · 24/10/2012 12:32

Well yes gin, I think everyone is aware of that except NG, who doesn't appear to be as I believe is comment related to the b&b case and sexual orientation is a protected characteristic

Report
ginmakesitallok · 24/10/2012 12:35

I also think that everyone is well aware that Nick Griffin believes that discrimination is a human right and that he believes the law is wrong (Have now read the link!) It's hardly newsworthy that "SHOCK HORROR _ BIGOT BELIEVES IN DISCRIMINATION!!"

I also agree that although he is a shit he is a very clever shit, and hence a very dangerous shit.

Report
catgirl1976 · 24/10/2012 12:44

Totally agree. He is clever(ish), dangerous, manipulative and a total shit.
