He wants to reduce the abortion limit to 12 weeks

I gave birth to a live baby at 21 weeks. I knew I was pregnant at 5 weeks.

I never thought I'd find myself missing Andrew Lansley. But Jeremy Hunt is even more loathsome.

Ditto.

Yes, that is a terrific plan. Don't reduce abortions, reduce safe, legal abortions...

Most abortions are before 12 weeks anyway aren't they? Oh god, can't face re-hashing the whole current abortion thread.

What's your point LittleFrieda?

Sorry, don't mean that abrasively, I'm just wondering what you mean by your post.

That is ridiculous. As I understand it, pregnancy in the UK is measured from the first day of your last period. My periods are on average 6 weeks apart, but can vary as much as a week or two either way. Add in the fact that an abortion takes time to arrange (the NHS 'aim' for less than 3 weeks) and that leaves me hardly any time to make a decision. I'd have to abort automatically to avoid the risk of missing the deadline without considering whether or not it was the best thing to do.

I am so mad at JH. We need to fight this. Please, everyone, join Abortion Rights and add your voices to the protest that is obviously going to be needed.

I am so mad about this too. I started a 'why aren't you furious' thread about it but I think people on the whole care more about whether their mother in laws are being unreasonable. Sad

I will join Abortion Rights tomorrow.

I've just seen this. I despair. We have a 'women's minister' who aligns herself with Nadine Dorries and a health minister who pluck figures out of the air based on no medical grounds. Whilst destroying the health service.

How long until Ed Vaizey goes batshit in the National Gallery with a pair of scissors?

It frightens me that I live in an era/country where men have control over my body like this.

This is a very real issue for all of us. Any of us could have contraception failure. And even if you would never consider an abortion for yourself it's important to stand up for those who might need need it. What we don't need is more children and women trapped in poverty or abusive relationships.

It's beyond vile. Anyone who needed CVS or similar invasive diagnostics would be unable to have an abortion if the results were negative. My DP and I are Tay Sachs carriers. Jeremy Hunt would have condemned us to raising a baby that would have been dead before it was 2, in all likelihood.
