Eamonn Homles has put his foot in his mouth again.

I would like to ask if anyone who saw this could follow the links in the article and make an official complaint?

He's already apologised.

Feminism/women's rights?

He's probably still upset about his team's 6-1 thrashing at the weekend. Grin

(no excuse though)

I loathe this man to the point of heckles rising every time his smug ugly pus appears on my TV.

Not because of this issue particularly, just in general.

What a ridiculous comment.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't really. What with all the unlicensed dodgy taxis that you are also supposed to avoid. So basically women should not be walking anywhere these days?

He is an idiot anyway and his ugly mug is on TV too much. How did he get to be on Sky breakfast news too? It has turned the news into a dumbed down chatshow.

''Sorry to three or four of you who have got in touch this morning, because I used the word 'retarded' during the newspaper review,' he said.'

Bit of a backhanded apology to me, bit like the sullen 'soooreeee' that can be extracted from unrepentant children.

fewcloudy, he's apologised (sort of; it didn't sound like an actual apology to me, rather "well, I'm sorry if those of you who have been RIDICULOUSLY OVERSENSITIVE are offended but FFS what is this, POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GORN MAD or something?" but not, AFAICS, for the "I hope you take taxis now" comment. Which does seem appropriate to discuss on the Feminism board.

Let me try that again...

'No I take a tazer.'

DownbytheRiverside love your comment Grin If only.

Got a standard response this morning saying my email had been passed on to the 'Today' team. If anyone watches it today let us know if anything gets mentioned?

No, I basically feel like Eammon is telling me that if I don't spend lots of money on taxis then i can't expect to stay safe. That isn't how it should be. I expect to be safe regardless.

Some crap comments from DM readers as usual. Here is a gem

"Why would you put yourself in more danger just because you want to be seen as equal?"

Angry

This subject is such a minefield, and none of us likes to feel vulnerable, but I think there are cost-effective things we can do to make us feel safer without having to change how we behave. I carry a personal safety alarm when I’m out, its on me...

lollygag · 27/11/2011 12:27

It doesn't 'empower' you.Let's face it if you use it you are really trying to attract the attention of some man to come and help you!

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 27/11/2011 13:12

Soooo, what happens if you don't have your alarm on you, Lala?

Hmm

My sense of safety doesn't depend on an inanimate object. What you're describing isn't empowerment, it's reliance.

lalayates · 27/11/2011 17:55

We shouldn't have to fear for our safety but there are predators out there. I feel safe knowing that the alarm is there, some may call it reliance but I feel more confident knowing its there.
