This is really interesting and shows how easy it is for he police to dismiss the victims account if they don't conform to the stereotypical beahaviour the police expect

Same is true for those making an appeal for the safety of missing loved ones.

"XYZ must have done it - did you see them at the press conference" is all too often heard. Yes, there have been one or two cases where the person making the appeal proves to be the perpetrator, but most of them aren't and all are now tarred.

The police are somewhat better at following evidence than the press. And when we get our information from the press as sole or main source, their role is key.
