Yes, an utterly horrible publication. It did indeed go bust (no pun intended) but returned in May after being bought by Karen Brady's benefactor David Sullivan.

Makes you think about Karen Brady's alleged feminist viewpoint doesn't it?

What the hell does the Daily Sport (which does not exist anymore) have to do with feminism? It is not a feminist newspaper, and has never claimed to be. Are you saying that only feminist newspapers should be allowed?

I wouldn't buy it but wouldn't describe it as disgusting.

Gossip mags are hurtful and embarrassingly invasive.

The culture of naked Women being ogled at in newsagents shops is distasteful at the very least though.

HerBeX Mon 15-Aug-11 17:02:35

Practically everyone I would have thought...

jennyvstheworld Mon 15-Aug-11 17:25:49

Clearly not Karen Brady! More than happy to take a very large salary from its sales...

Do you think porn should be banned? Do you think gossip magazines should be banned?

Banning porn is a ridiculous idea. What do you think it would accomplish? What
would you do with people that keep looking at it? Jail them?

Porn has been around forever, since cavemen were painting on cave walls. You really think banning it is viable?

HerBeX Tue 16-Aug-11 09:08:11

I think banning it from mainstream spaces is perfectly feasible.

If people want to buy pictures of a section of society being presented as dehumanised fuck-toys, then they should have to go to special outlets to do so.

BonnieLassie, it's not about banning porn, it's just about removing it from our mainstream.

It's about being able to pop down to the petrol station to buy a Pot Noodle without having a pair of massive boobs bonk me over the head or a blacked out vagina stare at me in the face.

Seriously, it just puts me off my Pot Noodle....

The Sport is only a Sunday paper nowadays. There's no nudity on the front cover, as far as i know. You see about as much "nudity" on the covers of other newspapers.

I haven't seen the sport in years but used to look at it sometimes when lads would bring it to work. I thought it was funny tbh. It's an unpretentious paper, so I can see how it might upset feminists.

BonnieLassie Tue 16-Aug-11 23:20:38

I stand corrected. I have just seen an advert for a midweek edition of the sport, on Wednesdays. So you will have to stay out of the newsagents twice a week if you do not want to be subjected to flesh on display.

EdithWeston Tue 16-Aug-11 23:28:47

The Sport is still around. I remember when it first came out in the 80s, and was actually funny (briefly): and didn't have barely covered females on the cover.

Now I completely agree it's repulsive - not least because of the crotch shots on the front page. The newsagent by our school has to stock it (part of a wider distribution deal, if I understood him properly, and has to have all titles on display). I cover it up whenever possible - children are in and out of the shop all the time at pick up and drop off. Such pix wouldn't be permitted on a billboard near a school, so I don't see why it should be on openly display either.

What's wrong with women that choose to do porn? It's their choice, let them. This is what feminism has done for women, pro-choice. Let them do it if they want they are not hurting you
