i don't normally wear any make up, but i'm sitting here preparing for a job interview for a job i really want and am qualified to do.

and i'm putting on mascara - in the belief that i'm more employable if my naturally blonde eyelashes are darker!

i have been reduced to giggles by the absurdity Grin

Noooo the belief itself is not absurd.

The absurd part is that it's true....

There's nothing absurd with considering dark eyelashes to be more aesthetically pleasing. Its not a feminist issue.

Far more adults have dark eyelashes than pale ones, perhaps its more to do with looking like you fit in, as opposed to stick out.

I suppose it's similar to a man having to shave ,keep his hair off his collar and wear socks, shoes, tie and jacket in the boiling heat?

And men have to shave. Why should they have to? And wear a tie? It's outrageous.

LucreziaDomina · 09/08/2011 15:54

They don't have to MsEliot. But most men's desire for employment is greater than his desire for long hair and a beard.

But why can a woman be considered less suitable for employment with a bare face? And why a man less suitable with natural facial hair?

Well, it depends what job you are going for. Many jobs will be quite happy to have beardy and barefaced employees, just as they would be happy to have tattooed be -jeaned ones.
Some hobs wouldn't be happy with any of those.
