Mother of Dominique Strauss-Kahn's French accuser had 'violent' sexual encounter with him

Story in the Independent here.

Firstly - my print copy of the "i" has as its headline not my thread title - but

"Accuser's mother admits affair with Strauss-Kahn".

OMFG - I was spitting feathers reading this. I expect more of The Independent FFS.

They manage to translate a violent sexual encounter into an affair.

Something which happened in his office and her description is that he was "a preditor, a man which wants to take women, not to please them". Sad

Clearly the Independent has realised how fuckwitted their print headline is and changed it online. Angry

Secondly - it sounds like Anne Mansouret has convinced herself that it was consensual - she must have given in Sad. That's not consent. Sad

What a pattern. Entitled man in position of power - in confined space with a woman (office, interview, hotel room) - woman reports ("violent" sex, attempted rape, rape).

Very interested to hear more about how the French press are handling this.

"given in" = convinced herself that she gave in and it was therefore consensual - certainly doesn't sound consensual to me.

y Proles I was intrigued by the word 'radical' in descriptions of her. Just, I wonder if they are using it correctly....

He really sounds like such a creep. There seems to be a conspiracy of silence (in France) regarding his conduct.

She says he acted with the "obscenity of a common soldier". What does that mean?

Sorry, she says it was consensual. I don't like DSK but stories about him being 'sleazy' are selling papers and satisfying for those who believe he may be about to get away with rape, but there seems to be a lot of smoke without any fire with these other stories about him.

This drives a cart and horses through the old yet persistent 'Those puritanical Anglo Saxons are so hung up about infidelity of their politicians whereas the French are so sophisticated and nuanced and unconstrained by sexual morés' narrative.

Bollocks.

The French is a patriarchal system where men get to shag whomsoever they choose do whatever they want whilst the womem support this by convincing themselves it is somehow normal, inevitable and a signifier of profoundness.

In response to that highly relevant question 'Why French women don't get fat', the answer is they live in fear of being dumped and the sinewy, scrawny, cigarette silhouette is the closest to the one they convince themselves will keep their man from straying. God knows they do not expect their DHs to remain faithful out of decency or love.

Perhaps the paper doesn't leap up the ladder of inference and condemn people on the basis of 'leaked' reports?

Nationalist prejudice or recognition of another group's culture? Oh it's hard to be correct these days.

But if a Frenchwoman ever said "I have to maintain a gorgeous appearance in order to keep my man faithful" I'd want to ask "How's it working for you, then?"

Any views on her taking out a civil case too? It's been said it reinforces the idea that she's after money. Will that now be used against her? (Because naturally, her financial business is on trial)

Didn't she state that she enjoyed the animal sex?

There's that much smoke here I can't imagine anyone could see through it.

Doesn't anybody else think she's damaged her Daughters case with this revelation ?
