Eh? I thought being delicate was a good idea with all babies, because they're babies?

Hahaha shah Grin. He's an idiot, (particularly if you consider the fact that biologically boys are weaker than girls. Male refuses are more likely to die in utero and make infants and under-fives have a higher mortality than females)

Would you like every comment that you've made about your children to be bitched about?

She's going to have to be pretty tough to live with a name like that.

Imagine when she is older and she googles details of her birth and she sees all the horrible comments made by the press re. her name.

He should have thought about being delicate when he named her

For God's sake, he's just been blessed with a daughter. Give him a break. And as boys are born with 30% more muscle, he may well be right.

And did anyone really expect those pretty gender stereotyped parents to think anything else?

the press will be all over that kid, commenting on what she wears and what she looks like :(

Yes I think she will be upset.

That fact doesn't mean I cannot comment on her name Hmm My point wasn't that people shouldn't comment, it was they should have picked a name less likely to make negative comments. The overall tone of my post laid the responsibility for the child at the parents door.

I'm not sure frosty why that would make you physically laugh aloud?

Moonlight I'm not sure about your logic there tbh. Harper's not that out there as a name.

I quite like Harper. Makes me think of Harper Lee.

I am pleased that I not only amused you but made you laugh out loud - quite a feat from a three sentance post. I obv. have hidden talents. Smile

So I can just clear up that you think I should critise the choice of name without actually critising the name? Hmm Confused you will be!

yy Frosty. It's an odd idea, that parents should choose a name that's safe & dull just because they are famous, in case adults chatting on the interwebs can't control their bile.

There is no 'name less likely to attract negative comments'. - well there is a statement designed to make the reader LOL!

I will leave you to your obv. delruirum Frosy

No I am still chuckling at the thought that the name Adolf would attract the same level of critisicm as jack Grin Grin Grin

Norm - did you read the article? The author was the inspiration.

Well, isn't this thread pretty petty? DB states he recognises boys are a bit rougher etc usually than girls. Gets moaned at for it, by people who have nothing to do with him or his family. Excellent.

Oh dear Frosty, can you not remember what points you have made? How do you stand a chance of backing them up if you cannot even remember? It's good to know how strongly you believe in them that you cannot wven remember them 2 posts later"

I applied your logic of no 'name less likely to attract negative comments' to the names of Adolf and Jack. Can you see what I did there? I made the assumption that your point would apply to all names not just the names on this thread.

Pan I am always on the lookout for evidence to back up my 'David Beckham is a tool' hypothesis but I shouldn't really be commenting since I've not read the article.

It's a petty example, but it does pain me that girls and boys are parented differently from the word go. This sort of unthinking nonsense from a v famous person just reinforces the stereotypes.

I thought that as well OP. All newborns are delicate FGS. They are already pigeonholing her as different and weaker than their boys. Whoever said boys are born with 30% more muscle - does that mean you slung your newborn boys around like a sack of spuds? Hmm because I remember mine feeling pretty delicate, myself.

doggiesayswoof · 16/07/2011 09:01

yes Moonlight but if they had called one of their kids Jack people would still have found something to criticise.
