what age is that aimed at? hopefully not children?

MaryBS Wed 29-Jun-11 10:31:58

Nice... it'll go with the pole dancer alarm clock I found on Amazon, whilst looking for one for my DD hmm

GooseyLoosey Wed 29-Jun-11 10:33:16

What's terrrifying is that they have already sold 11 roles of it!

GrimmaTheNome Wed 29-Jun-11 10:33:28

Well, if you will go looking for pink wallpaper what can you expect? wink
Start of the slippery pole slope...

nenevomito Wed 29-Jun-11 10:33:59

Oh that's truly vile!

PippiLongBottom Wed 29-Jun-11 10:34:06

It'll be for daft teens/twenty somethings. The likes of those on Geordie Shore. (Disclaimer: I have only seen the trailer)

Dh's niece shops in Ann Summers and had a pole in her bedroom.

SuePurblybilt Wed 29-Jun-11 10:35:12

Who the jeff is that aimed at? Teenagers? Girls or boys?

It looks like something you'd find papering the loos at Yates Wine Lodge.

PippiLongBottom Wed 29-Jun-11 10:37:39

Grimma, I know! We have moved on to teal/turquoise now grin.

Sue, it comes in black too. For the ladz innit.

PippiLongBottom Wed 29-Jun-11 10:39:53

Link to the black colourway

It is actually worse. I thinks its because the images are clearer.

Agree that pink leads to pole dancing. Via Playboy bunny products.

MoChan Wed 29-Jun-11 10:48:28

Completely icky. Both of them.

MrsChemist Wed 29-Jun-11 10:48:28

Urgh vile.

You could all too easily imagine the ladies crawling about at night, trying to escape the bars.

PippiLongBottom Wed 29-Jun-11 10:51:25

MrsC has clearly been reading 'The Yellow Wallpaper' wink. Bloody horrible thought though MrsC.

MrsChemist Wed 29-Jun-11 10:56:20

Well it did come highly recommended smile

Being locked in a room with that wallpaper would probably send me mad.

MrsChemist Wed 29-Jun-11 10:57:29

I bet even my SIL would balk at it and she has her own pole.

PippiLongBottom Wed 29-Jun-11 11:01:28

Niiiiice. I bet it's just for keeping fit, right?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack Wed 29-Jun-11 11:10:44

MrsChemist - I have my own pole too and even I think it's vile! Not for feminist reasons, but because it is just horrid!

wrongdecade Wed 29-Jun-11 11:27:48

i don't actually think its that bad like you said its not aimed at kids

wrongdecade Wed 29-Jun-11 11:29:22

I think comments like that undermine young girls ability to figure it out themselves, what is right wrong etc.

MoChan Wed 29-Jun-11 11:44:52

Sorry, but young girls can be brainwashed by stuff. Some girls probably aren't, because they have the right guidance, or are very sure of what they want. But not everyone is strong-minded enough to resist this stuff. I am not sure I would have resisted it very well, had that stuff been as aggressively marketed to me when I was a child as it is to little girls these days.

In any case, I wasn't actually being awfully serious when I wrote it. I was agreeing with Grimma's jocular comment about slopes/poles. But now you've pulled me up on it, it has become a serious point for me. I think the preponderance of pink does have an effect on how girls view themselves, on their self-esteem, etc, and it's more sinister than people are prepared to admit.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell Wed 29-Jun-11 11:50:25

So, wrongdecade, should we all just stop parenting our DDs, then? At what age do you think we should cease teaching them about morals and ethics and socially acceptable behaviour and honesty and integrity and determination?

I'd hate to undermine mine, that's all.

MoChan Wed 29-Jun-11 11:55:56

That's a MUCH BETTER response than mine.

openerofjars Wed 29-Jun-11 12:07:36

It's not just that it's offensive and demeaning. It's also revolting, aesthetically. It'd be like having James Bond opening credits all over the wall. Blurgh. I can just about imagine a teenage boy with silly parents (or really tragic 20 something male who thinks he's a bit of a player) having the black/silver combo but the pink/silver is kind of unimaginable.

Maybe it's meant for commercial use e.g. sex shops? In any case, not something you'd provide for a daughter's bedroom. Gross.
