What would you like talking dolls to say?

I'm a writer, I've been commissioned to write the script for an interactive talking doll.

I'm not asking you to do my work for me...but it struck me that with this job I have the chance to change/influence things a teeny-tiny bit!

So...as a regular on MN and as someone who has learned a lot from people on the Feminism boards...I thought, well...they won't mind if I ask for their two penn'orth will they?!

Check me out if you like...I've been here (under various names) for about 10 months...but you can see I'm for real if you do an avanced search on my name.

(not writing a comedy sketch about a feminist dolly or anything)

"Tiny Teena..she wees, she poops AND she's smashing the Patriarchy!"

So....jobs...hobbies....what would you like to hear from a talking pre-school aged doll? She's meant to discuss these things...

Well my 2yr old dd loves to tell everyone and anyone who stands still long enough:

'I got a vulva'

That should do it I reckon. I'm so proud of how proud she is about it.

It's probably under copyright, but:

"Some people say that little girls should be seen and not heard. But I say - oh bondage, up yours!'

In fact, she usually goes further and tells my 4yr old ds as well as other boys

'You not got a vulva. I got a vulva!'

On a more serious note, how about just making sure you've got some stereotype breakers in there, so that the doll says 'daddy' as much as 'mummy' and if it's one of these dolls that says "I like to..." make sure it says things like "play with my trains" as well as "play dress up". And if she's going into the medical profession, definitely a Dr not a nurse. Wink

I might get away with the roaring one as the manufacturers are Chinese...I could cloak it in something to do with being a lion!

Dolly loves to be a lion! I am dolly! Hear me roar!

I do wish I could add the Polystyrene quote though!

If you get "I am dolly. Hear me roar" in there, let me know and I'll buy one - simply for drunken amusement purposes. Grin

Ooh nice tip about mentioning Daddy sunshine! It IS one of those dolls who says which activities/food etc she likes....so that's great.

I like dissecting insects! One day I will be an award winning scientist! Grin

The doll is aimed at pr-schoolers. So 5 and under.
