Just spotted it in the In The News section, which I've had hidden for ages since all the BNP threads, but that's by-the-by...

OMFG...

And men as a group wonder why women as a group are fucking angry at them?

"how often each woman had been frequented" - if they would possibly be more demeaned, now they sound like public lavatories

Really, really yuck

I think I was a little bit sick in my mouth reading that. SEA to me it doesn't make a difference if the women "went along with it", I think its sick the way these women were used as a reward system for these oh so clever men Angry

(thats an angry face at the men, not you SEA!)

Also does anyone else wonder at the women wearing the white arm bands, who were reserved for the higher ups? I can't imagine what these women did to deserve such "special treatment". I can't help but think they were particularly young or especially virginal, or is that my mind going to worse places than this article already exposes?

I was sent this link yesterday.

It's not amazingly surprising. Insurance is one of the most sexist industries out there, a couple of years ago I read the gender pay gap was 40%.

SEA one of the (many) problems with this is the fact that presumably no women salespeople were invited. This means that either they were excluded from the guest list, or there aren't any. In a work culture like this you would have to wonder if the reason there weren't any top female sales people was due to a lack of talent or sexism. I am guessing the latter.

In the organisations I have worked in there have always been excellent female sales people bringing in a lot of business. In some organisations I have worked in there has been institutional sexism and women do not progress at all. There have been literally no women employed at a level above junior management. Also sexist HR policies. Women have been left under no illusion what the situation is. Although as they have generally paid well, and been prestigious, women still go to work for them. the good ones simply leave when they realise the real situation, if they are ambitious.

So this article highlights an attitude that is pervasive in parts of this industry, still. Quite aside from teh obvious wrongness of rewarding salespeople with prostitutes. So no women there. Do they have no gay male employees? Or ones who simply don't want to be associated with orgies involving paid-for sex? Or are all of their top sales people straight men who see no problem with having sex with prostitutes??? You'd be hard pressed to find a group like that in a workplace if you looked, I'd have thought. And yet they had no problem. Hmmmmm. Like employs like, and promotes like.

Just awful.

Presumably many/most of their top 100 (straight) sales men people are not single either. People at this stage of their career are at an age where they're generally paired off.

So that makes it all look even more lovely, doesn't it.

DH drew my attention to it, he's as revolted as i am

i wonder how many 'men' went along with it for fear of their jobs?

Report
Beachcomber · 20/05/2011 10:12

It is just so wrong on so many levels.

"hello darling have a good day at the office?"

"yes sweetheart - good news, I'm one of the top sellers this year so will be getting a bonus."

"That's great - what's it to be?"

"The company are gonna pay for us to get the chance to sexualy abuse some young women. Don't worry, they promised I'd get a virgin cos I'm in the top team."

I fucking hate patriarchy.

Good point Auntie Monica... I wonder how many men may feel pressure to comply with this utter crap.
