Fucking hell I was reading this about the attack on a reporter in Egypt when I scrolled down to the comments and some twat has posted this:

"Serves her right.. its about time women reporters started to get the picture and not go to these places - Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, North Africa, etc - the people in these countries in the main do not have the same values as this reporter. So although I do feel sorry for what has happened to her I sincerely hope she has learnt her lesson"

FFS Angry words fail me.

Never ever ever read the comments in the DM. It is much worse than reading the paper.

I have given up reading it, it just annoys me.

It's the DM, innit? Always amazes me that people who are so ignorant can actually read.

It is the DM and they will use all the comment to make a story about how the bristish public think woman shouldn't go to those types of places - twisted.

words fail me that people actually read the paper - but they do in their droves as it is the most popular daily paper < shakes head in dispair>

Never read the Daily Mail. I also once made the mistake of reading the Daily Express letters page and felt the urge to wipe my eyes clean afterwards.

Bigoted crap the lot of it.

I didn't actually think that that anything in the DM could shock me anymore but I don't know how they get away with posting such shit.

Awful but a little true? There are places in the world where being a woman is more risky than being a man, I wouldn't have wanted to report on Afghanistan 10 years ago. I've been to Egypt and have felt very unsafe and in Morocco when the men gather in the doorway of a shop to stop you getting out. (This did not happen when a man was with me either, only when I was alone)

comewinewithme - because their is very little reason why they can't print want they want. The readers want this type of story and paper - so blame them for the way it is written.

"learnt her lesson" - the implication being that beating a woman up is the way to teach her a lesson? If indeed a lesson needed learning in the first place!

The article says 140 journalists have been killed or injured since January reporting these unrests, but only women should 'learn their lessons' and go home. What a fecking twat.

This is where the Daily Mail is the same as the Guardian--if people are allowed to make comments, there are some out there who want to unleash their inner 8-year-old. Maybe there are some gems to find, but I've given up on reading comments.

Do you think that is untrue?. Because if you do, you are living in your own private little dream world.

So what's your point harvalp? Do you agree with what that mob did? Or are you such a racist that you think we can't expect anything better from those pesky foreigners?

I had many happy hours on Speak your Branes until I took someone to task for saying that when he was at school...blah blah...sluts...blah blah and was essentially accused of being a humourless dyke. I wasn't bothered about the dyke bit...
