Yeah, I found it very interesting (albeit depressing). I suppose the advertisers would answer that this is how girls and boys are and they are just responding to that (rather than creating or exaggerating these differences). I did a small amount of work for a toy company a few years ago and had access to their confidential marketing research and they DEFINITELY play to small children's vulnerabilities. They purposefully play on girls' insecurities about their looks and desire to be popular by looking beautiful, for example.
