Feminist protest against the pope

I know there have been threads about this visit elsewhere, but I would like some specifically feminist input here. I am going to the protest against the pope on Saturday. I was wondering if anyone else was coming on feminist grounds, and I would love some ideas for my banner. I want a good feminist statement and one that doesn't imply that I am a liberal Catholic. So 'ordain women now' wouldn't work, because I'm not involved in the church at all and don't want to be. What would be good and would fit on a smallish sign? Thanks Smile

what are the particular issues which are driving you to protest?

How about:
Fuck Off You Woman-hating Homophobic Paedophile-protecting Irrelevant Relic of the Middle Ages!

SGB: love it, but I will have a smallish sign and will be with the dc. One is only little and I am trying to teach him not to swear (not that I have anything against it, but I don't want him to d it until e knows what he's saying IYSIM).

SSM: All of it really, but I know there will be lots of people with banners about paedophile priests and discrimination against gay and lesbian people, and I want to make sure a feminist message is on show too. I could go with pro-choice, but I was wondering if I could make it wider. But maybe something like 'Institutional Misogyny is not welcome here'. Too boring?

Here are a few ready thought out placards, a couple of feminist ones included. Scroll down a bit.

So where's the rally? Is there a feminist contingent? Maybe I'll go.
I love SGB's slogan Grin

Thanks everyone Smile keep them coming.

Shatners, didn't realise they were there so thanks.

Rosa: Look here for information about the pope protest tomorrow. I'm not going as part of a feminist group, though I know some people who are. I'm going with my family. Lots of people will quite rightly have banners dealing with homophobia, contraception policy, protection of child rapists priests etc but I want to carry a feminist slogan which, I supect, will be less in evidence.

Anyone else coming? An MN contingent would be great.

I might come. did you see there are some feminist placard pdfs to print on the website? "Papal policies make women 2nd class" and "keep the pope out of women's reproductive rights". Not as catchy as SBG's slogan though :)

Yes, Shatners had a link upthread to those. They are good: it's important that the misogyny issue isn't forgotten among all the other horrors people will be protesting against tomorrow.
