Androphilia vs Misogyny

There is an interesting article on the Guardian website that focuses on a commenters distinction between misogyny/hatred of females and androphilia/over-valuing males. I agree with the comments that point out there's very little difference, and the outcome of both is the same, but i was interested how this distinction could be used when calling out sexist behaviour and the inevitable defensiveness of those being called out. As i think one commenter put it, if you stated "you hate women", they would simply reply, "no, i dont". Is "why do you over-value men" a better question? I'm asking as someone who has had many stand-up, shouty arguments with people who i would expect to Get It, so clearly the approach I've taken so far hasn't been the most productive.

Interesting! I had not heard of the word "androphilia" - wikipedia says The term is now used mostly to describe anyone with a sexual preference for men.

Does anyone know if that is true?

I guess I would feel more comfortable in using the phrase: "XYZ seems to be over valuing males rather than XYZ seems to hate women".

Can you share any of your "stand-up, shouty arguments with people"?
