Ovulation Bleeding

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced something similar.

So the past two months my cycles have been very long, approx 45 days, whereas my normal cycle would have been 34.

I am currently cycle day 21 and I've started to bleed. It's not spotting, I know this because I actually had some spotting around this time last month for the first time. I put it down to ovulation spotting. But this time there is quite a lot of bright red blood. Heavy enough that I've now had to run up and change and use a sanitary pad (sorry if TMI). I've got cramps too, and just generally feels like the start of my period. But it can't be surely as I've already had it this month. Although it would have been slightly lighter than usual I suppose, but still a normal period.

Can ovulation bleeding be heavier than spotting? Getting slightly anxious as I know mid cycle bleeding isn't normal. I'm intending to TTC in the next few months so have been using apps and that's how I know it's around my estimated ovulation date.

If anyone's experienced something similar it'd be great if you have any guidance!

I haven't had this exact set of circumstances, but I have definitely had an a irregular cycle. With one really really long period, and then one coming way sooner than I expected. It is possible to skip ovulation, the body is a strange thing!

I wouldn't get yourself into a complete spin about it, but maybe keep an eye on it and see what happens next month?

Thanks!

I have had irregular periods before, it's only really been in the past couple of years it's been 34 day cycles consistently. So this has thrown me off. And the first time I've had bleeding mid cycle. But yes, will try not to get myself worked up and see how the next few days go! Thanks :-)

I had my first midcycle bleeding this month to, and last month my period came at 20 days… I do think I've been pretty stressed out though. So trying not to worry!

Any changes to your previous "normal cycle" should be reported to your doctor. Blood tests can be done here to see what your hormone levels look like currently. Irregular periods particularly if this issue is long standing, can be caused by hormonal imbalances but you need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Thanks! It's just one of those things you're not sure whether to bother your GP with in the midst of all this. But going to see how the bleeding goes over the weekend, and will call my doctor next week and let them know of the changes.

Have felt very run down, with lots of brain fog this week, so could be stress/hormone imbalance like yous said!

Yes I think I've maybe been quite stressed lately too, so hoping that's it and that it'll sort itself out.

Hope you manage a stress free weekend :-)
