An Alternative to Dianette

Hope you're having a nice Sunday!

I have been on Dianette since June for acne and it has really cleared up. I'm 32 and have never been on the pill before but I have found it has really worked but I know I can't stay on it long term, this is my fifth month on it. Recently I've been feeling quite teary and sad, and my boyfriend has said it to me too that I've never acted this way before. Obviously being in lockdown can also be affecting this.

Has anyone been on another pill which has helped their skin? I plan to change pill before starting the next month but I have to do an online consultation for the prescription as my doctor isn't seeing anyone and I want to have more information about which pill I could ask for which might help me.

I thought Dianette was banned?? I was on it for years and had a DVT!

Since I came off it I have been on marvelon then micronor the mini pill... both were great!

I'm in Ireland and it's definitely not banned here, a women's hospital put me on it but told me to be on it for six months maximum

I was on dianette for 15 years. Following the birth of my son then 2 and a half years of BF, my skin was absolutely vile. Very, very red with loads of spots on my cheeks. It had been flawless previously. I recently went to my Dr about this and she said as I'm 34 there's too high a blood clot risk to go back on dianette. She asked me to try yasmin which I've had for 2 months. It's not as effective as dianette but my skin is definitely clearer. I feel sick and almost pregnant on it which I know is a common side effect and could last 4 months.

Marvelon is the first line after dianette.
I was also on dianette for years and did not have DVT.

I had Marvelon for years up until recently (having been on dianette before kids). It was great. I specifically asked for something that wouldn’t aggravate my hormonal acne. My skin was totally clear. I loved it, had to stop as was told I’m too old for the pill now!

Thanks for the quick replies. I've tried Googling Marvelon a bit but can't find much about mood, did anyone have any reactions with it in terms of moods? I know every pill can have a lot of side effects

DD has PCOS and was told Dianette is only ever diagnosed now in the UK for PCOS as opposed to for acne as it used to be due to the increased risks it carries. I'm wondering what the point was of prescribing it short term if the GP knows it wasn't going to be a long term option. Most people needing acne treatment need it more longer term, what a waste of time messing with your hormones for a short term fix.

Every pill affects an individual differently. I was on Dianette for about 8 years, yasmin worked just as well - the progesterone only pill fucked my skin up and now am on either Femodene or Millinette depending on what’s in the pharmacy.

To read other reviews of most of these pills, I should be a weeping wreck most of the time but I’m not.
Levonorgestrel wasn’t great for me and I felt “off” with it, but some women feel completely murderous on pills that I have found had no effect on my mood. So just try one and see how it works for you - your hormones and chemistry are unique to you and if you’re affected negatively, just stop taking them.
If they work as you want, that’s great.

I was on Dianette for years, only thing that cleared up my spots but my doctor says i shouldn’t take it anymore so I’m on Marvelon which doesn’t seem to do much for my skin at all

I'm also in Ireland and I'm on Yasmin now. I used to be on Dianette and I find it a great alternative. Anti-androgenic, good for skin, hair etc.
