Found a breast lump at 33

I’m in a total mess about finding a breast lump a few days ago. I called the doctors first thing and was able to be examined by a GP today who has referred me to the breast clinic for tests next week. Has anyone else experienced this? And more to the point have some positive stories to share? I have a 15mo DS and the idea of this being anything sinister is making me feel physically ill. I’m not sleeping, can’t concentrate on anything and I’m just petrified. I know the odds are in my favour, I’m young and with no (close) family history of breast cancer but I also know it’s a possibility.
If anyone has been to a breast clinic will they do a biopsy as standard alongside an ultrasound and mammogram? I almost want a biopsy so I can be 100% certain x

Pls calm down. I know its easier said than done.

Ive been in the same boat quite a few times and im in my 30s.
It was only once something was found which was a fibroadenoma

The other times were prominent breast tissue. As you are breastfeeding, it may just be a blocked duct or cyst.

When you are seen by the consultant you are referred for a scan. You May not necessarily need a mammogram as you are still young.

If anything is found on the scan, they usually do a biopsy there and then.

You should be contacted later for the results.
Pls have a good rest and try not to panic too much pls.i understand how you feel

Fingers crossed, it will be nothing ❤

Sorry misread that you are breastfeeding x

Thank you @Hannsmum. I did actually only stop breastfeeding about 4 weeks ago but I don’t think it’s a blocked milk duct as I’ve dealt with a few of those! I’ve been reading about fibroadenomas and they sound common, especially in women around my age. Scary isn’t it? It’s never something you really think about and the moment your faced with finding that lump the emotions are overwhelming.
I’m just hoping that this time next week when my appointment is done I’m at home with a glass of Prosecco in my hand after getting good news x

Two positive stories from me. Once it turned out to be a swollen cyst and the other time a fibroadenoma. The second time they did a biopsy just in case and the result came back inconclusive so had to go back to have it done again. I was scared stiff waiting but was all fine in the end, second one was all clear. They may well do ultrasound instead of mamogram as it works better on younger breasts. They will biopsy if they are even slightly worried about anything, the radiographer I had said I don't really think I needed one but said she wanted to do it just to be sure. They know as well as you that it's not worth missing something.

I got sent to the breast clinic after having a mammogram as I am over 50 and mine turned out to be a fibroadenoma. I ended up having 2 more mammograms and a ultrascan and then they did a biopsy at the clinic, and had to wait a week for the result, it was scary waiting but a relief to know it was nothing sinister. Try not to worry I know it's not easy but I am sure it will be nothing

Same experience as other posters. I was 33. Went to the GP with a lump and he found another two. Got an appointment at the breast clinic within the week, had ultrasound and mammogram, and diagnosed with fibroadenoma.

Excellent care from start to finish. Enjoy your prosecco!

Yeah, they did a scan and a biopsy extraction thingy I think. They said it was calcification. This was a couple of years ago. I'm 32 now.

My doctor found some lumps so I got referred to a breast clinic and it turned out to be benign cysts... apparently I have loads in my tiny A cup boobs, who knew. I happened to be in early pregnancy at the time, aged 34. Good luck to you x

Thank you ladies. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate these stories, makes me feel less alone and I actually feel better telling someone about it. I haven’t even told my mum yet as she’s on holiday and I didn’t want to worry her. We’re very close and talk about everything 😞 Will update after my appointment. Thank you so much again xx

Try not to panic. I found a few lumps deep in my breast tissue when breastfeeding my first DD. I tried everything to massage it out etc to no avail. GP eventually referred to the breast clinic and had an ultrasound to find that it was a cluster of milk cysts which eventually went away when I stopped breastfeeding.

Hoping it's similar for you. Best of luck!

Thought I’d update on here. I’m just back from the breast clinic. It’s just a cyst, thank goodness. They found another one on the ultrasound but it’s too small to be felt. No biopsy and they didn’t drain it as it doesn’t feel uncomfortable or painful so I’ve been told to monitor it and go back if it gets any bigger. They think it’s likely down to hormones; having had a baby 16 months ago and stopping breastfeeding a month ago.
The relief is just incredible, going to treat myself to a cup of tea and a biscuit. Thank you for all of your words of support x

I'm 33 too, I think I've been referred for six breast lumps, all nothing to worry about. Flowers

I have an appointment at the breast clinic today. I had a strange lump appear in both armpits whilst pregnant. Unfortunately I recently miscarried but the lumps are still there. Really hoping it's just hormonal but I am beside myself with worry. The GP found a lump in my breast too that she thought was probably just cystic but I can't help but fear the worst! I keep looking at my little girl and wanting to cry through fear! So scared! Reading other people's stories really helps ❤️

I'm reading this and hoping for happy results too. I have an appointment in 2 weeks because of a lump in my arm pit. Thanks to lovely mumsnetters for some positive stories. I'm still a mess but at least this has given me some hope.

I've had 2 arm pit lumps of that reassures u op - really similar and closely connected to breast lumps.

The first one was a blocked milk duct. I was breastfeeding my son and he was roughly the same age as yours is. Harmless and went away on its own.

The second one was a blocked hair follicle. I realise I don't think u can get these on your breasts but perhaps some reassurance all the same that lumps and bumps are very common and it's quite common for them to be harmless. Hope you're ok Thanks
