Extremely heavy period and agony(8 Posts)
Hello, I'm 37. One child born 2013 by emcs.
Periods always been on the heavy side but after having my son they've gradually got worse. They're always regular, on time etc but quite short (3 days, 4 at longest) accompanied by strong cramps plus heavy bleeding. This month is far worse, really heavy bleeding and agonising sharp cervical pulling feeling (if you see what I mean). Bleeding through a super tampon in an hour. My periods are short but intense, for want of a better way to describe it. I'm so tired ,heavy feeling and sluggish. Been on iron supplements for a while.
When my son was born (41 weeks) they told me after the emcs that I had a huge fibroid in my uterus which they removed after they had delivered my son. In 2014 I went for an ultrasound and was told the uterus was bulky but wouldn't affect future pregnancies.
I'm just wondering if another fibroid has grown back and is causing problems.
I don't know for how long that huge fibroid had been there, I'd never had issues beforehand so was unaware it was there.
The doctors are only offering telephone appointments at the moment, but I think I need to see someone about this. What should I do? thanks
Definitely contact your gp on Monday to sort out the issue long term. I’ve been having similar issues and had a telephone consultation / physical appointment and got referred for a scan during the current lockdown.
In the short term, that does sound really heavy. If you are worried phone 111. If you have to go to A&E they will keep you separate from potential covid patients. They may be able to give you something to lessen the bleeding.
Thanks I will do. I'd love another baby soon and want to TTC but worried in case there's something wrong inside !
Fibroids can indeed cause heavy bleeding to arise and you should seek medical attention. You certainly need an up to date internal ultrasound scan. The amount of bleeding you are having could well be causing you to become anaemic too.
My heavy bleeding was caused by fibroids so it's possible that you have a new one. I would definitely ring your GP and with your history they will probably send you for an ultrasound.
Definitely ring gp.
Explain how much it's affecting day to day. Ask receptionist if there's a GP that deals with gynae issues (usually it's one that can fit the coil).
The day I rang about mine and receptionist recommended I see a certain GP it was taken seriously and she's been amazing.
Thanks very much sorry for the delay in responding. Have a telephone appointment with the GP Monday
Hi sometimes ibruprofen helps. I have just wrote a similar post. I've had troibet since my second child was born. I have one tiny fibroid that apparently won't be causing it. Everything is clear apparently. I was anemic earlier in the year but bloods showed an improvement.
In regards to drs helping me they said they could refer me but they are not particularly seeing patients at the moment.... So I have said I'll wait and arrange to be referred to gynocology when coronavirus is less of a threat. Could be a while I know.
The gp has only offered me things like the pill which I couldn't get along with. They have offered me to try the coil but I have a phobia of things going in my cervix since a scary induction. I just can't bear the thought of a foreign object that I can't remove if it starts to affect me..
One Dr said I'm too young at 31 for ablations or surgery to remove the womb. Another Dr said ablation could be an option for me....
I think I'm done having babies. So I appreciate you are not at this stage yet where you can consider it.
If you want another baby I'd say a scan would help you to know if they think there are any issues.
You have my sympathies because my periods used to be something normal that didn't stop me. Now they impact my life. They exhaust me. They make me weak. I can't always leave the house on heavy days. One day I will be needing to collect my DD from school in the state I am in today and I hope to god someone can help me on that day.
