So it's not bacterial vaginosis, so what is it?

Sorry, bit grim. Went to the gp with what I thought was bv. Not many symptoms but awful smell after sex and exercise. She recommended the otc remedy before antibiotics and took swabs to confirm. That was a week ago. I rang today to ask for the antibiotics as otc hasn't worked only to be told the results had come back this morning and it's clear for bv. So what's causing the smell? Definitely no lurking tampon (I don't use them) plus she dinner her miners lamp when taking the swab so would have spotted anything weird. Only remotely novel event in the last six months was a smear about two weeks before the smell started but I presume that's just coincidence. No new soap, loo roll, etc. She's fitting me in tomorrow at my request but I don't want to be fobbed off. It's three weeks now.

Digestive probiotics help the lady flora rebalance. Maybe you could research some womens probiotic supplements to support your immune and can support the secretions/fragrance in the body.

I had similar- awful smell, classic BV symptoms, but swab came back negative. I was still given anti-biotics and it cleared it up so maybe the swab is not reliable? Not sure what else it could have been.

Yeah, I was going to say maybe the swab was wrong. Is there a discharge? How would you describe the smell?

I honestly don't know how to describe the smell. Absolutely awful, like nothing I've smelled before. But it's also not constant, the gp didn't notice anything when taking the swab. No discharge or pain. She repeated the test so waiting for that to come back in the next couple of days. I haven't had an antibiotic in more than three years and I don't want to take anything I don't need to, but TBH, it's starting to get to me now.

Sorry this may be an inappropriate Q but have you had an STD test to make sure that it isn't anything to do with that? I am thinking of Trichomoniasis as that causes vaginal odour.

Gp said she'd test for Trichomoniasis too but she thought it highly unlikely as she couldn't detect an odour at all.

I was talking to a friend who is a gp (not mine obvs) about something entirely different which caused a couple of other I thought unrelated things to click together and she suggested trying a hibiscrub for a couple of days to see if I've some sort of general skin bacterial imbalance. Makes me feel even ickier but can't be worse.

Also another that had classic bv symptoms that cleared within a few days of antibiotics. gp was pretty certain it was bv too, but the swabs came back negative, was also tested for sti’s at same time which also came back negative.

That's the problem though, I don't have the discharge or pain, just the smell. If the hibiscrub doesn't make a difference I might go back to the doctor...again.

I didn’t have pain with mine but did have increase in discharge and the classic ‘fishy’ bv odour. Maybe you just have a slight ph imbalance. It may resolve on its own with time, might be best to avoid using anything too harsh down there that could upset the natura ph.

I would suggest Apple cider vinegar on a tampon dipped in water and leave it in

And also drink some apple cider vinegar

Is it only after sex? I get this occasionally and I treat with some apple cider, smell gone next day
